We're adding depth to the BTB roster!
Editor's Note: Greetings All. I wanted to take a second to introduce a new front-page writer. He's been on the site for a while, you know him as DannyPhantom. We are very excited to have him and hope you are, too. Below is his introduction in his own words. Welcome aboard! - Dave
Being over here on Blogging The Boys is such a cool thing. For years I have settled into my daily routine of having my morning coffee while I pull up BTB and treat myself to the freshest Dallas Cowboys stories out on the internet. I’ve learned so much from this site. The writing staff is always providing great topics and does a fantastic job of keeping fans updated on everything that goes on with our team.
But it’s not just about what I read in the articles. It’s also about what goes on in the comments. The fans over here are not only extremely engaging, but very knowledgeable. It’s a lot of fun hanging out in the comments section with everyone. People are respectful and we all have a good time. It keeps me coming back and it feels nice when I return to check on one of my jokes and find it turned blue. I’m glad you get me and it’s great to be somewhere where you’re gotten. I wouldn't have this opportunity if it wasn't for the welcoming feeling that this great fan base of BTB has given me over the last few years. So to all of you - thanks.
So here is a little bit about me that I am hoping most of you find pretty normal…
I’ve been a Cowboys fan since I was eight years old. My first vivid memory was from the Divisional Playoff game against the Falcons in 1981 where Danny White threw two touchdown passes to Drew Person late in the fourth quarter to complete a great comeback. That was a fun team to watch. There wasn’t a more exhilarating sight than seeing Danny White line up in shotgun formation.
I live in Oregon and we don’t have a pro football team, which is fine because I wouldn’t be rooting for them anyways.
I go to college at Oregon State University. I study Mechanical Engineering. Since I am an Oregon State Beaver it only comes natural to find the Oregon Ducks despicable. So I got a jump on all y’all on the disliking of Mr. Chip Kelly.
I work at Hewlett Packard as a manufacturing technician. I help make the circuits that go into printer pens. I’ve been with HP for 20 years. Since I work in the technology industry work is very scientific so it is refreshing to escape and go someplace where I can relax and just have fun talking about football.
My hobbies include fantasy sports, playing on the company softball team, and a monthly poker game with my buddies.
My wife has a hamster and sometimes it escapes from its cage at night and crawls on me while I am sleeping. This is a very unsettling way to wake up and I wish it would stop. This doesn't have anything to do with anything, but it feels good to finally talk to someone about it.
I love when we wear our blue jerseys. I don’t know what it is, but it’s a special treat for me when we wear them. I wish we wore them about four times a year.
I am a big Jason Garrett fan. I apply many of his teachings to my everyday life and I have found it to be helpful. He’s a smart guy. I even have some of his mantras printed out and stuck up at my desk at work.
Danny Phantom was a cartoon that my kids watched when they were little. I adopted that name for my online poker username and have used that as my general username ever since.
My wife has a crush on Jason Witten. I was a little jealous at first, but over time I’ve come to realize that Witten is just so incredibly awesome, so clearly it just shows she has great taste.
My cousin is the bass player for Aloe Blacc. Here he is getting ready to perform at Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards.
I was so bitter by the 1994 NFC Championship loss to the 49ers where Deion got away with pass interference that I called up Sports Illustrated magazine and ordered a two-year subscription. When they told me that their giveaway gift was the 49ers championship video (which I already knew because I saw their commercial) I asked for a different gift. They told me that was the only promo gift they had to give away, so I canceled my order. I deliberately wasted 10 minutes of their time out of spite.
I’ve grown up a lot since then, but I still have a small inclination to sort of make fun on the other NFC East teams whenever the opportunity presents itself. I’m sure I’ll grow out of that at some point.
So that tells you a little bit about me. I am honored to join these great suppliers of Cowboys goodness over here on the front page. I look forward to contributing to some of that goodness. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m glad to be a part of it.
