If you were the new owner of the Dallas Cowboys, what kinds of changes would be looming?

On Wednesday, the Powerball jackpot is expected to be around $1.4 billion. Yes, billion. I personally don't usually partake in such an endeavor as playing the lottery, but things get crazy at work as people pool their money together to get in on the action. I throw my cash in the mix for the sole purpose of not being that poor sap that gets left behind should the unthinkable happen and the group from work wins. Sure, the odds are ridiculously unfavorable, but my wife would never let me hear the end of it if I didn't go in on it, and that's a risk I'm not willing to take.

What would someone do with that kind of money? Well, you'd have enough money to buy an NFL team, if that team was the Buffalo Bills, who currently have a net worth of $1.4 billion. Of course, the Bills are dead last when it comes to net worth, so if you're looking for something better, you might have to wait until Saturday's drawing. And if you were interested in buying America's Team, it would cost you about $4 billion as the Dallas Cowboys have the highest net value in the NFL. When Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989, it only cost him a measly $150 million, which is now how much he shells out each year to pay his player's salaries.

Could you imagine if you owned the Cowboys? I can. We've all been subjected to all the crazy things Jerry Jones has done over the years, but what kind of things would you do? Here are three things I would do as the new owner of the Cowboys.

1. Put Jimmy in the Ring of Honor


Let's just get this one out of the way, shall we? Jimmy Johnson is an iconic figure in Cowboys history. Jimmy Johnson helped rebuild this team in a hurry. After going 1-15 his first season as head coach, he'd have the Cowboys in the playoffs two years later, and winning Super Bowls the following two years. Jimmy's five-year stint was quick, but it was extremely impactful. Many of the things Cowboys fans hold sacred to them are a result of Johnson and without him, fans would never have found out the answer to the infamous question - how 'bout them Cowboys?

Johnson's stamp on the team made the ‘90s a great decade for Cowboys fans and allowed all over us who suffered through "The Catch" a little redemption as Dallas would beat the San Francisco 49ers twice in back-to-back NFC Championship games, on their way to a Super Bowl victory.

If he hadn't shown up, the Cowboys may only have two Super Bowls and just think how unsatisfying that would be. Could you imagine how horrible things could have been had Jerry hired Barry Switzer first?

2. Promote Will McClay


I watched the 2014 NFL draft with my buddies and when the Cowboys were on the clock with the 16th pick, I had to endure the longest five minutes of harassment as my friends laughed at me because they were so certain the Cowboys were going to select Johnny Manziel. It didn't happen. Instead, the war room, opted for a future All-Pro guard. The Will McClay era had begun.

Rather than having to worry about other teams snaking him out from underneath the Cowboys every offseason, let's just go ahead and change the name plate on the door of his office to read "General Manager." After all, it's the job he's being doing in recent years anyway, so let's just make it official. And while I would love to be in a position to make all the player personnel decisions myself, I love winning more - so it's probably best to just leave that to the smart people. And McClay is one of those people.

3. More of the blue jerseys


First off, I love the white jersey just like you do. In a perfect world, all the home teams would wear their whites so the fans who go to the games would get to see a mixture of colors each week, just like Tex Schramm had intended back in the day. But these days, most teams feel compelled to wear their dark jerseys at home, leaving the Cowboys in the whites most of the time. The blue ones are nice too and I just want to see a little balance. Cowboys' fans deserve a little variety from week to week.
