The Dallas Cowboys have been quiet in free agency for a while now, but that could change soon. Reports are coming out the team will have free agent cornerback Brandon Boykin in soon for a visit. Boykin is an interesting case who had a good season for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, but was then traded away to the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. His playing time in Pittsburgh was sharply reduced and the team parted ways with him this offseason. He was subsequently signed by the Carolina Panthers in March, only to be released last month.

The constant movement and inability to stay with a team is a big question mark for a player who was widely praised during his 2013 campaign with the Eagles. Todd Archer mentions that there is a rumor going around that Boykin has a hip problem. Comments out of Pittsburgh were that one leg is shorter than the other causing him problems with running because of a degenerative hip condition. The Cowboys, I'm sure, are fully aware of this rumor and their medical team will take a long look at that.

Boykin has spent a lot of time playing as a slot corner. It's been assumed that the Cowboys will play Orlando Scandrick on the outside when they are in a base defense, then slide him into the slot in the nickel. Scandrick played a lot of slot when he was coming up in the organization but has since showed he can handle the outside, too. Of course Scandrick is also coming off an ACL tear and won't practice until training camp, and even then the Cowboys will likely be careful with his reps. Maybe Boykin is an option to help at camp and play a reserve role.

Besides reporting the Boykin news, Todd Archer added some more about players the Cowboys worked out on Tuesday.

The Cowboys worked out seven players on Tuesday, including British Olympian Lawrence Okoye, a defensive lineman who has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona cardinals and New York Jets since 2013. Okoye is the British discus record holder. He finished 12th in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Cowboys also looked at defensive backs Dax Swanson and Isaiah Frey, offensive tackles Cameron Bradfield and Bryan Witzmann, linebacker Brandon Hepburn, and tight end Nate Askew. Askew played linebacker and wide receiver at Texas A&M. He spent time last season on the Panthers' practice squad.
