Elliott made a great first impression for Green Bay, tearing it up in the preseason of his rookie season where he recorded five sacks. It was enough to earn a spot on the Packers roster. He has played 38 games for Green Bay over his three seasons in the league, but hasn’t started in any of them.

Green Bay fans were hoping for a breakout season for Elliott this season.

In the last two seasons, Elliott has played in 310 snaps, so he has averaged one sack per 77.5 snaps. That's right where Peppers was when he was with the Packers (75.1 snaps) and that is a much better average than Matthews (127.4 snaps).

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy talked about Elliott this week during the NFL annual meetings and he said Elliott has a chance to do some big things this upcoming season.

Such big things that they traded him for a conditional 7th round pick.

Based on what he had previously showed, it makes you wonder how serious the back concerns are. Seems like he was at least good enough depth to not have traded him for a conditional seventh.

He’s been quiet so far this year as he’s been dealing with back spasms. Does not sound to serious to me. If it is, he plays less than the games required for the pick.

To trade him away for nothing, though, when he had shown pretty good promise, makes me wonder. I can't see why Green Bay would just give him up like this.

Packers are not in the best shape at LB, probably their weakest position and they felt they could give this guy away for a 7th. Kinda makes you wonder.

They had 3 years to see him play. My guess is they viewed his ceiling as pretty low as a 3-4 OLB and where happy to get a conditional 7th for him.

So Broaddus thinks he will play OLB for us. I initially thought he'd play DE.
