Looks like Joseph Randle's time in Dallas is over.
Several reputable news sources are reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have released running back Joseph Randle. This is hardly a surprising move to anyone following the team, Randle has had multiple issues during his tenure with the team and his absences for personal reasons last week set the stage for his release. After Sunday's game, owner Jerry Jones commented on the situation.
"I'm always concerned as to any issues regarding the [mental] health of a player," Jones said. "It's a lot more serious than the football [injury]."
Randle was given the starting job this season after the departure of DeMarco Murray. His production as a backup gave many hope that he could replace the departed Murray to some extent, but it never quite worked out. He was unable to produce consistent yardage although some of the blame had to go to the offensive line. He also almost fumbled the ball twice trying to extend it over the goal line, drawing the ire of head coach Jason Garrett.
Off the field, Randle had multiple run-ins with the law, including an arrest for shoplifting and the domestic violence/marijuana incident in Wichita that could still lead to a suspension from the NFL. Last week he was excused from practices, this coming on the heels of losing his starting position and suffering an oblique muscle injury.
Whatever is wrong with Randle, we wish him the best. His time as a football player in Dallas did not work out, we hope his personal life comes out better.
