News: BTB: Sure Sounds Like Greg Hardy Won't Be Back With The Cowboys

It could one and done for The Kraken

As the Dallas Cowboys head into the offseason, one of the first things they must do is decide how badly they want to re-sign some of their own free agents. As mentioned previously, they don't have any Dez Bryant or DeMarco Murray type decisions to make this offseason, but they definitely have a list of guys that must be evaluated. One of them is defensive end Greg Hardy. If you been listening to what's coming out of Valley Ranch recently, don't expect him to return.

Even though Jerry Jones makes noises about wanting to re-sign the talented-but-troubled end, Jason Garrett doesn't sound like he's with that at all. His end of season press conference where his discussion of Hardy was short and not exactly sweet said about all you needed to know when it comes to the head coach's opinion on the subject. Last week there were reports that the Cowboys organization had soured on Hardy because of his tardiness to meetings and the four conferences he had with Garrett about some of his public statements that caused the Cowboys grief.

Now Jeremy Mincey has come out, and while sort of defending defended Hardy,basically confirmed that the chemistry was off with Hardy and some of his teammates. Speaking of Hardy he said:

"I hate [that] it happened. You talk about a team that was so close knit and tight, and all of a sudden it was just different," Mincey said. "I wouldn't say that he's the reason for that happening, but sometimes change, sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You know what I mean? And sometimes with change, the team is different. Regardless of how great this athlete is and regardless of this and that, if they're not mentally on the same page, you're not going to get the same results."

Mincey also says that some of the young guys weren't sure about Hardy and whether to follow his lead or not. All of this would be a moot point if Hardy had played the season like the Hardy who was basically a sack-a-game guy during his final years with the Carolina Panthers. But Hardy was not that player in Dallas. He had six sacks in 12 games and while he did play well against the run and managed some QB pressure, he just wasn't a difference-maker on defense.

If you are going to be disruptive, late to meetings and cause your head coach headaches, you better be special. Hardy wasn't special in 2015. It sounds like the Cowboys may not be interested in a repeat this year. They can't franchise him, even though they probably wouldn't anyway even if they could. And it's likely some team will want to take a chance. I can't see the Cowboys spending too much time and effort trying to keep him.
