With the 67th pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected defensvie tackle Maliek Collins out of Nebraska. He's definitely an interior lineman, a large player at 311 pounds. The Cowboys have decided to fortify the interior this offseason by bringing in Cedric Thornton and now Collins. This sounds like the kind of pick Rod Marinelli would like since he's quick and athletic for his size.

IN OUR VIEW: Collins lacks the bulk and power scouts would prefer in an interior defensive lineman, but he's an exciting athlete among the big guys up front, winning with burst and agility. Collins' ability to disrupt makes him an intriguing three-tech candidate for a classic 4-3 alignment.

BOTTOM LINE Three-technique with impressive athleticism and movement skills, but a lack of play strength to hold up at the point of attack. Collins needs to play for a defense that allows him to play up the field and should benefit from pass rush work with NFL coaching and teammates. Collins should test well which could push him way up the draft board, but his floor is lower than many of the defensive tackles in this draft.

The Cowboys have now addressed the running back position with first round pick Ezekiel Elliott. In the second round, Dallas took a flyer on Jaylon Smith who won't hit the field this year, but is a long-term investment at linebacker. Now they have added an interior defensive lineman in Maliek Collins. The Cowboys still have needs at defensive end and in the secondary, they could also use another wide receiver and a quarterback with an eye towards the future.
