Sometimes a story is just too perfect for it not to unfold.

You could make the case that Chidobe Awuzie has been, through nine games, the most disappointing rookie on the 2017 Dallas Cowboys.

Of course, some would say that since he hasn’t played that he can’t have disappointed, but that’s what’s been disappointing. Chido has played in three of nine possible games, and of those three he’s left two with injury.

Thankfully, after being a healthy scratch last week, it seems not only as if Awuzie is going to play against Philadelphia, but that he’ll be relied upon.

Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli said today that if S Jeff Heath (concussion) isn't cleared to play Sunday that rookie Xavier Woods would start in his place. Also, 2nd-round pick Chidobe Awuzie will also see some time at safety Sunday vs. the Eagles.

Chidobe has played in three games this season (New York, at Denver, and Green Bay), but considering how long it’s been since we’ve seen him, this feels like a debut of sorts.

It’s poetic that such a “debut” would come against the Philadelphia Eagles. Why poetry, you ask? You can thank the sonnet that Mr. Original #88 Drew Pearson spun together in the City of Brotherly Love during Chidobe’s draft selection.

Chidobe Awuzie came out of the proverbial womb beating the Eagles. It’s only right that he be born again this season with a magnificent performance against them.

Part of what drew (get it, drew, cause of Drew, hilarious) the Cowboys to Awuzie out of Colorado was his position flexibility to play cornerback and/or safety. Xavier Woods will start if Jeff Heath is sidelined, but Awuzie should get some run at safety, too.

It’s been a rough season nine games in for the Cowboys second-round pick. What better way to announce himself to the world the same way he originally did? It only makes sense for Awuzie to have himself a game on Sunday.
