The official start of off season activities can begin on Monday, and the Cowboys are being led by the man who puts more effort into his craft than anyone else.
There is no doubt that Tony Romo is the most important cog in the machine that is the Dallas Cowboys. Losing the veteran passer in the second game of the season was the straw that broke the camel's back for the team. Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel, and Kellen Moore failed to ignite any confidence in their teammates and the squad floundered under their leadership. Without their leader in place the team was dysfunctional at best.
That was 2015 in a nutshell. It is over and the time has come to look forward. For the men who make up the collective entity that we see on the sidelines that begins on Monday. The official start of offseason workouts begins on that day. The players will be limited in what they can do, but it is time to get back to work They will begin with a couple weeks of strength and conditioning before moving on to things that start to resemble football, at least officially.
I say officially because some of the best news for fans is the fact that Tony Romo has been throwing fully now for a couple weeks as he works his way back from to broken collar bone injuries and an off-season medical procedure. The veteran quarterback reports that he is right where he needs to be.
"I can throw fully. I've been throwing fully here for a good week and a half, two weeks. It's been good." - Tony Romo
Not only has he been able to air out the ball, he has been working with his receivers to perfect the little things that can get out of adjustment when players go a full season without working together. Most importantly, you can include Dez Bryant in the group that Tony has been throwing to. Getting an early start on getting the rhythm down with his top receiver, who also was lost for part of the season, could be the single most important piece of the puzzle for the Cowboys.
The fact that both men are able to get back to work, and that they are doing so ahead of the "official" timeframe is something that can only be a positive for Dallas. So is the fact that the team has responded to the challenge that comes on the heels of a disastrous season.
"We've had a great turnout. A lot of guys are wanting to get in and get after it, and I think that's a great sign. I'm all for seeing all the guys in there every day."
A team that has been bereft of good news since September has finally found itself with a cause for guarded optimism. The 'Boys are back in Dallas, most really don't leave once the season is over, and they are getting back to work with Romo leading the charge.
