The Cowboys veteran quarterback is getting closer to a return after taking team drills with the scout team in today’s practice.
After working off to the side on Wednesday, Tony Romo was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. For the first time, he did pre-practice stretching with the team and then participated in the opening individual drills. Like last week, Jason Garrett said that Romo would work with the scout team in 7-on-7 drills. But Todd Archer reported that Romo also got in some 11-on-11 work with the scout team, marking his first team drills since the injury.
Dez Bryant commented on Romo at practice today.
“I think he’s been losing some weight and I think I saw some abs on him,” Bryant told NFL Network. “Romo’s been throwing some missiles out there.”
Not practicing today were Barry Church and Morris Claiborne, as expected, and defensive lineman Ryan Davis is still out. Added to the “not practicing” players was linebacker Anthony Hitchens who has a knee issue, he worked on the side with Davis. Hitchens says he’ll be ready for the game on Sunday.
The Cowboys also opened up a roster spot today when they let go running back Rod Smith.
Perhaps the Cowboys are thinking of bringing up a practice squad player to bolster the depth of the secondary. If they pull someone up from the practice squad, expect it to be corner Leon McFadden
