The Cowboys convened for a practice today, getting back into the swing of things after a bye week.

The Dallas Cowboys returned to the practice field today after resting for most of their bye week. They did hold one practice last Wednesday, but now preparations start in earnest for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

Missing from the practice today was quarterback Tony Romo. There has been plenty of debate over when Romo might be ready to practice again, and how long he would need to actually be ready to play. Whether he comes back as the starter, or as the backup to Dak Prescott, most experts estimate he would need at least a couple of weeks of practice to be ready to go. If he misses this week, the schedule gets pushed back.

Of course, the Cowboys probably don’t mind the idea of Romo’s return being delayed, there is growing evidence that the team would like to stick with Dak Prescott as long as he’s winning games. Jerry Jones’ evolution from decidedly saying Romo would be the starter upon his return, to saying they aren’t sure and that it’s a good problem to have certainly lead one to believe the Cowboys are fine with continuing with Prescott. For now, it looks like Romo is still not ready to practice.

Also missing from practice was left tackle Tyron Smith. The back problem has been an issue, it’s hard to know at this point if the Cowboys are just being cautious with him, or if the bulging disks are causing so much pain he can’t practice.

Back at practice and basically cleared to go is wide receiver Dez Bryant. After missing three games, Bryant is almost assuredly playing in Sunday’s game. In other good news, Morris Claiborne was at practice, perhaps indicating that he has cleared the concussion protocol and can play this week.
