There is finally a diagnosis on left tackle Tyron Smith and it sure sounds like he could miss some time, although the Cowboys continue to term him questionable and day to day.

Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith has a sprained lateral collateral ligament in his knee. He is not expected to practice today but he has not practiced on a Wednesday in weeks because of back, hip and groin injuries. It's questionable he will be available Sunday against Seattle.

Even a mild sprain that is not severe usually takes a week or so to recover from, and more severe sprains can take 4-6 weeks. It’s impossible to know without having the information the Cowboys and their doctors have, but it sure sounds like Smith might miss at least this week’s game, and possibly next week. Then if there is a game after that, we’d have to see about his condition.

We need Smith for the Seahawks game! I have zero faith in Bell. Dude is barley a traffic cone.

One step forward with Zeke, One step back with Tyron. It's so hard to get all our key guys back at the same time.

How many distinct injuries did Tyron have this year?

1. Back
2. Groin
3. MCL

Where there any others?

Shoot it up with drugs and put him out on the field. There is a trophy to go claim and we need to be the ones claiming it. We don't have a lot of time for strains and bruises.

You keep talking like that the true fans are going to show up and get you.

By True fans, do you mean the same delusional fans that told me Zeke was going to win his case when I said he was going to serve the six games, whether this year or next regardless of his appeals.......unfortunately I just don't see the Cowboys making the playoffs this year and I wouldn't risk further injuring to Smith with his back and now LCL injury....Dallas really needs to find a legitimate swing tackle in the off season and with the ongoing back concern with Smith, you can no longer depend on him remaining healthy and I'd think back surgery may be in the near future for Smith...

I've been saying this since the preseason (and prior), Tyron's ongoing back issues make him susceptible to all sorts of other physical problems as he adjusts and compensates for a drop off in his fundamentals due to the back. We've all seen this season how much he's been affected by blocking problems (vs. speed/power rushers and blitz recognition/pickup) much more so than in past seasons. He's not only struggling physically but also mentally due to his practice reps being compromised. He's no doubt the best (IMHO) LT in the game when healthy, but I believe the back is the root of all his growing list of ailments. He/the organization needs seriously to come grips with the short- and long-term implications of his condition. If it can't be fully rehabbed (if so sit him for the remainder if no playoff chance) and if surgery isn't an option (and as we've seen over the years, it is usually not a real fix for this sort of thing...see Troy Aikman), then I think we need to consider his replacement sooner than later...perhaps while he still has some trade value. Back problems are rarely just "nagging injuries to be managed" especially when you're a massive LT, so I don't think I'm overreacting here. The FO needs to be shrewd about how we deal with this and not drag their feet as is the norm.
