In the spirit of better late than never this weeks fantasy football post is a bit overdue but here is this week's forecast just in time for some last minute adjustments to your line up.
Editor's Note: FanDuel is running a $1,000,000 fantasy football league in week 2. The Top 46,000 teams win cash with $100,000 paid to first place. Join now!
Quarterback
Start
Tony Romo - For a second week in a row the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is one of my 'must start' guys. Even without Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant, Romo is a weapon capable of putting big points on the board for his owners. The ongoing work in progress that is the Eagles secondary is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Romo still has three targets that have proven that they can get it done and there looks to be an added wrinkle this year at he is throwing to his backs more as well.
Matt Ryan - The New York Giants allowed the second most passing yards in the league last week and they could not shut down the Dallas offense when it mattered. Little to no pressure up front and shaky coverage on the back side means that Matty Ice will be licking his chops for a shot at the New York defense in week 2.
Sit
Matthew Stafford - The strong part of the Minnesota Vikings defense is its ability to defend the pass. The did a solid job in limiting the 49ers in week one and they have a trend of doing the same to the Lions offensive attack. Stafford failed to break the 200 yard mark against the Purple People Eaters both times last season and the secondary in the great frozen north appears to be even stronger in 2015.
Running Back
Start
Justin Forsett - In recent years the Oakland Raiders have been a dream matchups for most runners. That trend looks to be continuing in 2015. Last week Cincinnati was able to run at will on the slver and black. Look for Forsett to rebound from a tough outing against Denver with a good one this weekend.
Mark Ingram - The New Orleans Saints are looking to Ingram to be a dual threat. He can get you the yards on the ground on a consistent basis and now his is becoming a bigger threat in the passing game as well. Last week Drew Brees went to him on nine targets for nearly 100 yards. Look for that trend to continue against a Tampa Bay defense that was pretty accommodating to the Titans backs last week.
Sit
Latavius Murray - While his opposite number with the Ravens may be running wild, don't expect the same from the Raiders ground game. Oakland is last in the league in rushing and Baltimore is still a defense that likes to get physical up front.
Alfred Morris - The Rams kept Marshawn Lynch in check, that means that they can shut down pretty much any back in the game. Morris runs hot and cold. After a solid opening performance he will cool off against another defense that likes to get physical up front.
Wide Receivers
Start
Terrance Williams - Another Cowboy makes his second straight appearance in the 'must start' category. The difference is that he will be Tony Romo's WR1 against the Eagles. Some may expect the loss of Dez Bryant to be the 'Boys downfall but Williams will likely face Byron Maxwell who looked out of place often in his Philadelphia debut.
John Brown - The Chicago Bears secondary is reeling to start the season. They did little to nothing to keep enemy receivers out of the end zone in week 1 and things don't look any better as the Cardinals come to town. Look for Brown and Carson Palmer to connect early and often in this one folks.
Sit
Oakland receivers - I don't like to group players this way, but Raiders QB Derek Carr is suffering from a bruised thumb this week and there is a pretty good chance that he will sit this one out. If Carr does go he will not be effective, especially against the Ravens defense who did a solid job against Peyton Manning in week 1.
Jeremy Maclin- The Kansas City Chiefs face a Denver defense that help the Baltimore receiving corps to less that 50 yards in week one. If that is not suffocating, I don't know what is. I suspect that Maclin will be able to put some points on the board for his owners this week, but there are better options available to you.
Tight End
Start
Jason Witten - I know that is three Cowboys again this week, but look at the situation. Tony Romo is without his big name downfield threat, who is he going to turn to? For the readers of this community the answer is obvious. Need I say more?
Sit
Mychal Rivera - I would not consider the Oakland tight end to be an option against the Ravens under the best of circumstances and with Derek Carr facing question marks this week the circumstances are not the best. Last week Rivera barely made a scratch for his team, one catch for two yards, and this week could be similar.
This one might look a bit like a homer piece mixed in with a little abude of the Raiders, but some weeks that is how the match ups fall. Dallas faces an opportunity to go against a secondary that is a work in progress. They will be led by a passer with the hot hand right now. The opposite is true for our friends from Oakland. Their QB is dealing with an injury that will impact his ability to throw the ball against a defense that can be stifling at times. There is a bonus tip for you. If you are in need of a defense, bank on the Baltimore Ravens this weekend.
