We each have different reasons why, but the one thing that binds us all together is the team that we all follow.

The Dallas Cowboys are the ties that bind for the community here at Blogging The Boys. Some of us partake frequently in the blue kool-aid, while others are realists. We come from all walks of life and all 50 states, heck some of us are from the other side of the world. Even the staff here at BTB reflects this diversity. It is that diversity that has me thinking about what brings us together, and that leads to my question. What does Cowboys football mean to you?

My first memory of the Dallas Cowboys dates back to January of 1982. Danny White and the Dallas Cowboys were leading the San Francisco 49ers with less than five minutes to go in the NFC Championship game. The Cowboys were about to go to another Super Bowl, and the atmosphere inside the little house it Mesquite, Texas was filled with energy that even a preschool-aged little girl could pick up on. My Dad was excited for his team, and that was what was important to me.

As we all know, it was not to be. Four minutes later two 49ers, known, Joe Montana and Dwight Clark, brought about a dramatic shift in emotions. That little house in Mesquite was silent, or it would have been if it were not for the temper tantrum being thrown by a four year old little girl named Dawn. I didn't know for sure what had happened, but it clearly was not good. Everything I know and love about football and the Dallas Cowboys began at that one moment. I guess Dad realized that I was destined to be the son he would never have, and he took me under his wing and shared "his" game with me.

Over the years Dad and I shared many moments that revolved around football. Heck, when I was six he signed me up for the pee wee league but Mom put a stop to that when we brought my equipment home. I had to be content with being on the sidelines as Dad made his living coaching the game we both loved. Before he passed away we had the opportunity to attend quite a few games together in Texas Stadium, including our annual Thanksgiving visits. For me, the Dallas Cowboys are a link back to someone that I lost as a teen-aged girl. For 13 years we shared the Dallas Cowboys as our team. Dad has now been gone for more years that I had with him, but I know that come Sunday he will be looking down from above and we will once again be watching the Dallas Cowboys together.

We all have a story to tell, and I want to hear yours. Take a few moments and let the rest of the community know how and why you became a fan. It is a good day to take a walk down memory lane with me, perhaps even shed a tear or two as I have, and let us know what Cowboys football means to you.
