The Cowboys have Randy Gregory, Greg Hardy, and DeMarcus Lawrence that all figure to be in the mix for double-digit sacks. But which one among those three has the best chance to get the most sacks?

Greg Hardy is without a doubt the most accomplished pass rusher on the Dallas Cowboys roster. The main variable about how many sacks he will get is the situation with regards to the number of games he will ultimately get suspended. Will it be only two or will it be 10, or will it be some number in between?

If Hardy only gets a two-game suspension then he will likely be the guy that will have the most sacks this year, but if it is 10 games, then there is not much chance for him to be that guy. If it is only six games then it will be close as to who will have the most between him, DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory.

During the latter part of the season and in the playoffs DeMarcus Lawrence started really showing why the Cowboys thought he could be the guy that could get the double-digit sacks. If we can all think back to that sack that took care of Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions, he not only showed great technique at getting around the tackle, but when he turned back towards the line of scrimmage to get to Stafford, he saw that the fastest way to get to him before he had a chance was to lay out and not give him any extra time to do anything at all.

The sack that sealed it.

It was a beautiful play that really wowed me and when I watched him I could see that he has the motor and get-off to really do some damage. This will certainty be a good year for Lawrence.

But having said that about Lawrence, Randy Gregory is the guy to watch this year. After watching a lot of video on Gregory, I am convinced he has the capability to be a double-digit sack guy this year, and could be in the high teens as soon as two or three years from now.

Barring any knuckleheadedness, I think he has the chance to be in that 10-12 sack range this year. Am I drinking the Kool-Aid? Maybe, but there was a reason this guy was rated a top-10 pick in this year's draft. He has long arms and has a very quick get-off when he is not asked to contain. When he is asked to contain, he does it with the common technique known as the "tackle-read." This is where the defensive end is asked to read the tackle before rushing the quarterback. He is taught to not look at the ball, but instead "read" the tackle and use that as a key as to where he needs to be.

If it is a running play then by reading the tackle he assures himself that he can maintain gap integrity. When he is asked to just get after the quarterback like on sure passing downs and he can use either of the two remaining techniques, (which are ball movement and the snap-count), then he is just a monster. When he is asked to pin his ears back and get after the quarterback, he is one of the best that I have studied in the last five or more years.

Gregory can bull rush a 320-pound lineman like he did against Ereck Flowers of Miami. Gregory just owned him the whole game. Gregory can close on a really fast running back and on a very good running quarterback with just unbelievable skill. He is 6-5, has very long arms and is very good at using the proper leverage to easily handle guys that weight a lot more than he does. He understands that the guy that gets his hands on the other guy first usually wins, so when facing a defender that may have a longer reach, he also understands that one arm can be longer than two, so he will twist his body so he can reach out with one arm and punch or pull the guy off balance. He is definitely not a one trick pony with only one or two moves.

The Cowboys will not have just 28 sacks this year, but should be in very good shape with the sack artists now on the team.
