The first weekend in November brings with it a new concept. This time around the top teams in the country are not just battling for bowl positioning, they are attempting to secure a slot in the first ever national championship playoff.
This Saturday will not feature quite as many ranked teams squaring off as we have witnessed over the past several weeks, but the ones that do take place will have impact on the bigger picture.

Gary Patterson will lead the highly ranked Horned Frogs into the land of the smoldering couches for a Big 12 showdown. After a slow start, the Mountaineers have found their footing. The last time WVU played at home, they upset another top 10 team in Baylor. Now they hope to make another leap in the polls by knocking off another Texas school. If they do, it will certainly throw a monkey wrench into the race for the conference championship and perhaps the national picture as well.

The SEC West serves up another match up of top teams. This division has dominated the college football ranks this season, and now that their focus has shifted from beating up on lesser teams to thrashing on each other, fans are being treated to a steady flow of great match ups. One added boon to this game...the winner will find themselves still alive in the division championship picture. The loser will need some help to get back in the race.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez has the Wildcats on the verge of the national championship discussion, and a victory over UCLA would be a boost to the team's chances. For the 6-2 Bruins a win could mean an opportunity to prove that the squad was not overrated coming in to the season.

Another pair of PAC 12 schools are ready to inject their own voices into the conference championship discussion. Although the Sun Devils have an extended winning streak over the Utes, this should be a tight game. It will come down to Utah's ground game versus the ASU defense.
