Bucky Brooks of NFL.com: Are one-year wonders Bowers, Newton & Fairley worth the risk

He is not really big enough for the 3-4 at 291 these days. He would be like Rat and get worn down.

I think he would play at DE and unless I'm mistaken, he weighed 297 at his pro day.

Besides, Ryan will use so many different fronts that I feel like he could put Fairley in a good situation.

I think he would be a great fit with the Cowboys with Rat there to mentor him. I've already read that Rat has shown him some of his pass rush techniques that contributed to his success.

Not to mention that they're both Auburn alums.

I know Casserly was saying he feels strongly that Newton is not worth an upper 1st round pick and most certainly not a top 10 pick. He actually said he was not worth a 1st rounder at all, which is fairly harsh.

I know if I were drafting for Carolina, I would not pick Newton.

Of course, all it takes is one team...kind of like Denver last year. But that was later in Rd 1, not 1st overall.

The Panthers had it rough last year, but they tended to draft okay when Fox was involved.
But this is a different regime, so we'll see.

As for Fairley as a Cowboy...heck yes.

I don't make Haynesworth comparisons loosely, because I think Haynewsworth is certifiable. If I were to compare him to someone, it would be Warren Sapp. Was Warren Sapp always in peak physical shape? Nope. Was he going 110% on every snap? Nope. Was he still the most dominant defensive tackle in the game for a decade? Yep.
