Yep. I remember Dick Vermiel had convinced himself that Phillips would be ok. Tom Osborne stood by him, too.

Some guys are just beyond help, I guess.

It's too bad, you won't find two better men than Dick and Tom.

This guy had red flags on him coming into the draft and I was ecstatic that he was taken off the board just before we had our selection.

I presume it was over money and not a couple of pot head buddies arguing over the pipe:D

They may be good men, but their jobs also depend on having talent on their teams that help them win. They may not always be willing to look past these problem players, but they will if they think someone can truly help them win games. College coaches tend to be get away with having troublemakers on their teams more than NFL coaches. It was easier for Osborne to deal with Phillips antics than it was for Vermiel. Once Phillips got some NFL money his problems became bigger.

Part of the reason some teams took him off their boards is because there was a question about off the field issues with him. I'd imagine this would justify, in the eyes of those who did take him off their board or move him down, such a move.

I wonder if this will bring with it any kind of league penalty? This is his first offense of anything while in the league isn't it? *Shrugs*

I hope he's available the opening weekend. I'd rather the Buccs fans not be able so say they were missing their best corner as an excuse.

The Hawkins signing looks like it makes some more sense now, they probably knew this was coming up.

Dallas Cowboys, 1-0 after Week 1 ;)

Posting this because I remember a bunch of people here really liking him in the draft.

Bucs' Aqib Talib charged with battery, resisting arrest

TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib posted a cash bail early this morning after he was jailed on charges of resisting arrest without violence and simple battery, both misdemeanors.

The Pinellas County jail booking sheet said Talib posted a total of $300 bail to be released from jail.

The report said the 23-year-old starting cornerback was arrested in Pinellas County by Florida Highway Patrol troopers. He was booked into the jail shortly before 1 a.m. and released just after 6 a.m., the report said.

Details of the arrest weren't immediately available.

Talib, who is slated to start at cornerback this season, was the Bucs' first-round draft pick in the 2008 college draft (20th overall) out of the University of Kansas. He played in 15 games during his rookie season and finished with four interceptions.

I remember no one wanting him for this exact reason.

The guy had several red flags, and he missed his freaking Pro Day in Dallas. Who does that?

It was blatant back then the guys was going to screw up.

Funny so did I, Glad we're not Scouts, although Slaton pick isn't bad.

He threw a beating on a teammate during the offseason program. I think he busted him up pretty good from what I remember.

he also got into a fight at the rookie symposium

this is like his 3rd incident in 1 year of being in the NFL

damn shame, cuz this guy is all-world talented
