Bucs Side Of Rolle Story Differs

2/27/2010 1:24:23 PM

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports the Bucs side of the Myron Rolle story that ran on the Yahoo Sports website the other day is a little different than what Yahoo Sports has.

For those who haven’t read that story, a controversy has risen over a report of that claims that during a 45-minute interview with a team of Bucs executives, Rolle was asked by one member of the Bucs staff “what it felt like to desert his team this season.’’

The reference, of course is to Rolle’s decision to leave Florida State University during his senior season to accept a Rhodes scholarship and attend Oxford University in England.

According to Bucs General Manager Mark Dominik, who was in on the interview along with Bucs coach Raheem Morris, the question that was actually asked of Rolle was “Did you feel like you deserted your team’’ by going to Oxford.

Seems like a complete nonstory. Anyone that gets offended by that has thin skin.

Bill Parcells asked Marcellus "Dat Dude" Wiley if he was on drugs.

There are times when the question is meant to gauge your reaction, not insult you. If you choose to be insulted, then you wanted to be. He had to know it was going to be asked. Maybe not in exactly that way, but it was going to come up.

This.

We always hear about random questions that are meant to throw these kids off. It isn't that they are asked to get a real answer, but more so to see the reaction of the kid. If a kid hesitates, it may show some sign of insecurity or even untruthfulness in their answer.

Or even more, it would show an inability to react well to something unexpected. If you cannot handle a random unexpected question, how are you going to play on Sundays when an offense throws an unknown wrinkle at you that you had not prepared for?

Or if it sets them off and causes them to walk out, it would show they are mentally weak and full of themselves.

Everyone that gets a Florida State scholarship will not see the full four to five years. Some of those Florida State players will be fired by the university.

Rolle got a better offer and fired Florida State.

Is Tampa suggesting that the employer is the only one with freedom of action?

Will Tampa refuse to draft or sign players that leave their schools early?
