Postgame wrapup from Cowboys-Bucs
The Cowboys pulled out a 34-21 victory here at Raymond James Stadium, sending the Bucs to 0-1 as they turn their attention to Buffalo next Sunday.
As for news out of the postgame interviews, here's what you need to know.
INJURIES: Jeff Faine suffered a triceps injury that sent him to the locker room in the fourth quarter. He said he felt either a pop or a pull, and that an MRI would have to determine the extent of the damage. That likely will come on Monday.
Antonio Bryant's knee was bothering him during the second half, forcing him to shut it down for the day. He said it won't keep him out of action because he didn't further injure the knee that kept him out of action through the whole preseason. He's just working his way back and it's going to take time.
"You have to rememeber, I haven't played football in nine months," he said.
Jeremy Zuttah suffered an ankle injury and had to leave, but he said afterward it wouldn't be a long-term issue.
DEFENSE: S Sabby Piscitelli atteributed some of the coverage issues to "communication," but the truth is he was out of position repeatedly. CB Ronde Barber, putting it delicately, said Sabby needs "let the plays come to him" as opposed to the other way around. That's a very accurate analysis of Piscitelli's issues. While he was looking in the backfield at the Tony Romo, receivers were running by him. It's not about ability or talent. He has that. It seems to be more about discipline.
OFFENSE: The running game was supurb, with the Bucs running for 174 yards. Cadillac Williams nearly reached the century mark with 97 yards on 13 carries, a 7.5-yard average. Derrick Ward chipped in with 62 yards on 12 carries.
The Bucs got the ball down the field, evidenced by Michael Clayton's 47-yard catch before the half. But didn't convert nearly enough, nor did they get enough help from their defense.
And regarding a drive late in the second quarter deep in his own territory, QB Byron Leftwich admitted he should not have run out of bounds and stopped the clock, allowing the Cowboys to preserve a timeout and setup for a 42-yard TD pass on the ensuing possession.
There will be plenty more to come both online and in Monday's newspaper (we still have one of those, you know?). Got to get working. Will check in later both here and on on Twitter.
