Bucs' C.J. Wilson injured in fireworks accident

[URL='http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG']New York Giants pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul wasn't the only NFL player to suffer a fireworks-related setback on the Fourth of July.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson also suffered a hand injury in a fireworks accident, his agent, Joel Turner, told NFL Media on Wednesday.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport later reported, per sources who have spoken with the player, that the injury is serious enough that Wilson's career might be in jeopardy.

"His health is the focus now and will be for some time," Rapoport
wrote on Twitter.

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune
first reported the news.

"We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday," the Bucs said in a statement. "It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation."

Seriously don't play with fireworks! Grill out and get drunk and leave the fireworks displays to the pros.

I think it's overreaction. Especially since this news is hot off the press.

Neither one of these idiots will miss a beat.

JJP will get into his 3 point stance

CJ will miss an occasional int, he will have to press his man, "stump-style".

I agree with JJP but think CJ may have seen his last game. i dont know much about him but his stats say he backup db and on his 2nd team in 2 years with a lifetime appearance of 2 games with 4 tackles. Its tough enough to make an NFL roster- making it with half a hand (if he can even make it to training camp) could be to much.

yeah playing with firecrackers cost him 2 fingers and at least $250,000.
They might keep him around, but maybe not.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson will take a hiatus from football -- one that could be permanent -- following a fireworks accident that led the loss of two fingers.
