Now there's a team trying to get better. Hargreaves was the #11 overall pick in 2016 and their best CB........cut him due to lack of hustle. What kind of awesome message do you think that sends to other guys on the team?

I'm guessing there are going to be some Bucs hustling next week.

Yikes

A pick-six in Week 1 and a game-winning tackle in Week 2 gave way to the idea that Hargreaves was beginning to play to his potential, but he has fallen off a cliff since, allowing a 69.2% completion percentage that has yielded 578 yards and four touchdowns to go with the one interception. Quarterbacks have a 110.9 rating when throwing toward Hargreaves in 2019.

Looks like Philly found themselves a CB. Bet they sign him.

Anyone cut after the trade deadline is subject to the waiver wire for the rest of the year then a free agent after the season. Not sure where the Eagles land on that at the moment but he would have to make it to them.

Its doubtful anyone is going to claim him on the waiver wire or they would be responsible for the rest of his guaranteed contract.

They have the choice to accept or decline his 5th year option upon claiming him (Tampa's acceptance was voided when they cut him). So all they would be responsible for is the balance of his salary this year.

Hargreaves just had a fire lit under him which is all he needed. He's got loads of talent. His next team will probably get his best effort.

Conventional wisdom says you're right, but a lot of NFL history says otherwise. Tons of players who appear to have lots of talent get cut and still do nothing.

Certainly worth taking a flyer on. It is rare for a player of his caliber to be cut midseason. He was their best CB. It looks more like a coach-player personality conflict. Hargreaves wasn't a Bruce Arians pick. We see this all the time with new coaches trying to shake out the players they don't want to build around. If they had made this decision prior to the trade deadline, they probably could have landed a 2 or 3rd for him.

A second or third? Not at all. For starters, he's sucked for all 3.5 of his seasons. Even this year, he may have been their best CB, but al that tells me is their CBs suck. And when you look at the cost of his 5th year option and only having 1 year of team control before free agency, he honestly had less trade value than Taco.

Giving up a 110.9 rating this year when thrown at him

If he was so bad, why did Tampa pick up his 5th year option?

I mean...I could answer your question with a question and ask "If he was so good, why did Tampa Bay cut him?"

But instead I'll point out that the 5th year option in only guaranteed for injury up until the start of the league year. So even if they didn't question his effort, there's no reason to think they would have kept him for more than $9.9 million dollars based off his level of play so far.

The fact they picked up his 5th year option strongly implies that he did not "suck for all 3.5 seasons."

pretty obvious stuff
