I am way behind on the '17 draft but what are the negatives on Budda Baker. Watching his highlight tape, isn't he the ideal guy for our secondary?

I like Byron Jones but he is not a playmaker. His value is he can do a lot of different things. Wouldn't Baker be a real nice match with Jones. You could turn Baker loose to make plays while Jones could do a little of everything to fill in.

His measurables (5'10"). There are teams that don't care about that and look to production (Tyrann Mathieu). Other teams, like the Cowboys, seem to have firm floors on the size of players they draft at certain positions (If McClay was with us back in the day, we would have never drafted Scandrick based on his size, IMO).

Size. He and Jones from NC State are my pet cats at safety. Think both would do very well in the Cowboys secondary. I'm guessing the 'Boys like Peppers and Evans.

I guess that makes sense. Parcells was a big guy on not drafting exceptions. He just looks really good on the highlights (although most highlights do that).

Who is the real star in the Washington backfield?

When you see two or more players from the same basic grouping on a team that are highly rated...sometimes you, or maybe it is just me, wonders if both guys (or more) are that good or are they a product of being better due to the sum of the parts and not the individual parts themselves.
For instance...Wisconsin RBs...seems like they are good in college behind a great Wisconsin line but don't seem to shine as well in the NFL.
In the past...OSU Lb corps...sometimes they are a better unit due to the sum of the parts but taken individually they do not do as well in the NFL.

This is one of those things where I wonder If Baker, Jones and people forget about King is a product of players being better as a group or individuals and if all three are good as individuals...who is really the best of the bunch between jones and baker.

When Jones having an achilles injury it would automatically seem that Baker is going to go first, and maybe he was rated higher and was going to go first anyways.

But it still makes you wonder if either of these guys are really as good as it seems or are they helped and look better due to having each other and king in the same backfield.

I like the player, but unfortunately we have to think about D coordinator fit when thinking about some of these prospects. Is Rod going to play a 5'10 190 lb SS? I don't see it. And we also have slot CB pretty well filled so I'm not sure where Baker would fit.

If it were up to me it wouldn't be an issue because I think the player would bring a good overall skill set to the secondary, but you always have to think about what Rod would do. He doesn't stray too far from the prototypical height/weight of a position. Church, Wilcox, Heath, Frazier...Those guys are all similar and it didn't happen by accident

I think it would be a size thing cause guys in the secondary will get more 1-on-1s

I like Baker quite a bit. Can't remember any times where Wilcox or Church's height came into play. Baker seems very aware of the ball, a savvy blitzed and a follow-through tackler. That's a good start and his athleticism seems to compliment those traits.
