Buehler vs.undrafted rookie Bailey

Dan Bailey smiled as he left the field Friday at the Alamodome. He had a reason to be pleased. For the second consecutive day, he converted all five field goal attempts from varied distances.
“It’s been a good experience so far,” said Bailey, an undrafted rookie from Oklahoma State who won the 2010 Lou Groza Award. “But I can’t get too ahead of myself.”
Still, Bailey’s performance has been encouraging. It’s also put the incumbent starter, David Buehler, on notice. Since training camp began, he has missed three field goal tries while Bailey has connected on all 10. Even though he dealt with two bad snaps Friday, Buehler, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Cowboys in 2009, refused to make excuses.
“You have to come out and perform,” Buehler said. “Dan’s a good kicker. I’m going to be forced to come out and compete.”

It was a heck of a ride, Buehler. Good luck in your future endeavors. Maybe you can pull an Ankiel and comeback as a safety or a LB.

If Bailey wins out, does the team keep Buehler as a project somewhere else or just release him?

Anyone know if Bailey is good at kickoffs? I thought I read that kickoffs were just so-so.

Wouldn't be surprised if we keep 2 kickers again . . . .

Dan is a really solid, really consistent kicker. I was pleased to hear that we picked him up. I do believe he's got a great chance to beat out David. Especially now with the new rules making it a little easier on kickers to get things into the endzone that makes the one area where David had a big advantage not quite as big an advantage.

With the extra roster spots though (I believe game day rosters are now 47 instead of 45, i could be wrong) I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them carry both like they did in 2009 and just allow David to boom kicks into endzone for touchbacks.

Yea i'll be happy to have a better kicker but would miss his deep kickoffs and he can hit also. Be interesting to see what actually happens.

Buehler is going to be the kickoff guy no matter what. With the new rules every one could be a touchback if they want. Funny that it's been pointed out that two of his misses had bad snaps.

Everything I've read about Bailey says he's weak at kick-offs.

But with the new rules....who knows.

does the kickoffs really matter with the new kickoff rules(35 yard line)?.we need a stable kicker who is automatic within 40 yards.

If you are weak on kickoffs in college you are still going to be weak on kickoffs in the nfl even with the new rule.

Nick Folk was excellent on kickoffs in college.

With the new kick-off rule, go with the most accurate kicker. It's a no brainer.

Id much prefer this as well. If its down to the kickoffs then sorry David but thats not worth enough to watch you miss more field goals.

I'd prefer going with the guy whose more accurate for sure.

McMahon said he was showing plenty of leg on the long FGs.

We'll see, I guess.

I do believe he hit a 51 yard game winner against A&M. I've got a buddy whose a big time OSU fan and he was telling me about him a lot. I've seen the kid play some but my buddy has seen him play every week that he was at OSU.

Buehler should of been released yesterday. he had the whole off season and is still missing point blank kicks. I understand its only training camp but how can you miss with basically a no pressure setting and the defense not really coming at you. A 35 yarder should be a gimme.

He'll be gone.

This Bailey guy has been drilling them in practice while Buehler seems to just not be getting it done.
