Buffalo TeraStation 1TB Network Storage

filed under peripheralsI was too lazy this past Friday to write about it, but Buffalo has introduced a new Network Attached Storage (NAS) device for you storage-obsessive folk. The "TeraStation," features four 250GB hard drives giving a total 1TB (and yes I know 1TB = 1024GB but too bad) of storage. What I like most of all is the price—at around $1000 USD, the TeraStation just might find its way into a few well-heeled consumer's homes.

For those of you who do decide to pick one up, you'll be delighted to know it features four operational modes. There's two boring "just store ****" modes, but two modes utilize RAID like there's no tomorrow. Also, it connects via Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0, so surely you'll be able to fill it up with your Suprnova legally downloaded media in no time. By the way, though Buffalo products have found their way to America, the American Buffalo page makes no mention of it yet.

I know. This little bit of tech is a Godsend. I was just finalizing my plans to build a 1-terabyte storage box and I stumbled across it. However my storage would cost a third more with half the functionality. I mean 1 tera for a grand is worth it but if you throw in raid 5, GigaLan and 4 USB 2.0 ports, well just say it had me at hello.

I have huge plans for mine. I will archive all of my music, movies, pictures and serve them through out the crib. I can't wait.

If you CAN wait...then DO wait.

Because just like everything else....with time that price will drop quite a bit.

I remember getting one of the first Rio MP3/CD players....thing was around 2-3 hundred dollars....now you can buy the same thing MUCH cheaper...even the upgraded versions are under 100 dollars.

But I will say that little storage unit would be very sweet....I don't think you would ever have to worry about getting another hard drive for storage.

Yea I know if you buy leading edge then you will always pay a premium. It is just a matter weighing cost oppose to wanting/needing it now. I want it now and I will bite the bullet of being an early adopter.

I mean it is freaking terabyte of raid 5 storage, you can't tell me you are not tempted, lol. Now my only obstacle would be convincing my better half because it is too big to sneak into the house. :p

Edit: I love the new sig, those guys use to make me laugh and I still dig the song.
