Bulging disc common, unlikely to be problematic

A bulging disc is usually not a sign of pathology; it just may be the only anatomical variant seen on an MRI, so it is mentioned in the report.

It is never going to "unbulge", so it it were the cause of any spinal pathology, those symptoms would never resolve.

Most back spasms occur due to an imbalanced load and/or a mismatch between anterior and posterior strength and flexibility.

Tyron will be fine with rest and a modified workout routine.

I have one. The only time it bothers me is if I sit a lot and don't stretch.

I doubt very seriously this will be a big issue for him with the type of trainers he'll have around him all the time.

Jerry is similar to chirality in physics when translating doctor speak. I have very little faith that Jerry can convey the injury information correctly without him placing a positive spin on the injury.

He should be fine... rest, massage, and some work with a knowledgable chiropractor can do wonders.

If the bulge is pressing on a nerve, it could be a problem. Not enough information to go on and we certainly wouldn't get good information from Dr. Jones.

I'm glad you guys are posting this cuz I was fearing the worst for Smith. this makes me feel better. Thanks. When I saw "bulging disk" earlier today I was like O no, not one of our main guys again. I guess PTSD from Charles Haley and Troy Aikman pop into my mind.

But if it's not going to be a season long problem or a career ender then I feel better. We need him big time.

Yeah, have one myself. Only acts up sometimes. Basically equals out to warming up properly, stretching and lifting with good form for me. However I dont go through the trauma that Smith engages in every Sunday. He is young and in elite shape though so Id imagine he rebounds much better than this old man.

If the disc herniates its a whole new ball game.

Yea but how many of you guys hit a 300 lb lineman oh say 87 times a game.If you did that for 16 games it will be herniated pretty quick.Oh and then there's Romo 3 -plays and I am hurt again. All NFL players are crash dummies.I truly hope Romo quits here.He is a great person with a beautiful family and more money than he can spend. He could be a commentator very smart guy.

I have two bulging discs in my neck (since 2006) and it is definitely something that bothers me pretty much everyday.

For the most part I am not restricted from doing anything (I played basketball tonight) but there are certain things that are a no go. Overhead weight, turning my neck for an extended length of time, too much weight bearing on my left arm/shoulder (it's been weakened a great deal), and I certainly wouldn't be able to take the big hits from football.

Back in 2009/2010 it got really bad and I missed probably 1 out of every 3 days of work with bad headaches and pain in my shoulder and arm.

I do also have an issue with the curvature of my neck and upper back, but I can distinguish what pain is from which.

Anyway, it is not something I would wish on someone.

I wouldnt just gloss over a bulging disc in the nfl

True but at the same time it amazes me that 75 percent of these guys dont have them. They lift ungodly amounts of weight and run 4.5 speed into other mac trucks. If I didn't know any better Id just have to believe they have pretty excellent regiments and are able to heal up and move forward. If Im not mistaken some bulging disc heal completely and some dont. This will have to be managed closely.

Same here buddy, compression fracture in back and bulging disc in neck that triggers migraines. I hope you dont laugh this off but I had migraines 2 or 3 times a month until I started Tumeric (supplement with black pepper) and Kratom when the migraine gets going. No need for prescription crap. Haven't had an episode in 6 months. Still working out hard 3 to 4 times a week also. Theres alot of stuff out there to help us heal up, its just not being pimped by the pharmaceutical industry. Good luck to you.

Also, stretch your pecs and hip flexors, work your glutes, and keep your core strong for your posture. Helps alot. (theres alot more to it but thats a great start)

Turmeric is no better than placebo, and kratom is dangerous, due to opiare-like effects. It has not gone through any double-blind placebo-controlled trials in order to prove both safety and efficacy, and I would not recommend using it.

OTOH, prescription drugs have undergone exhaustive trials, and therefore all such risks are well defined and transparent. Any unregulated substance distributor has no incentive to invest in R&D, and is marketed with conflict of interest.
