  • At the end of last season I said this team needed a heart transplant. This past offseason the Cowboys made some key changes that could be likened to just placing a stint. What I'm saying is this team needs to continue the inevitable and just go ahead and get the Jarvik-7. Brookings, James and Newman have to be removed.
  • I've been hesitant to make this comparison, and still am, but it's starting to appear to be apropos. Garrett reminds me a lot of Mike Nolan's tenure with the 49ers. I lived in the Bay Area through Nolan's entire stay with the 49ers; I've seen his press conferences, coaches show, post game, et cetera. Nolan was initially thought of as a great coaching prospect; he had great lineage; seemed totally in control with a clear plan that he would rigidly adhere to; had his own catchy phrases like "smell of the lockerroom has changed"; would unapologetically stick to his guns even after clearly bungled calls. I don't know what becomes of Garrett, but I do see some clear parallels developing between the two. I am worried though. Somethig tells me Jerry has fallen in love with the idea of Garrett becoming the next Tom Landry-type coach that will man the spot for at least a decade.
  • Terence Newman....he's done. I'm not even going to harp on the missed pick-six; I've seen far better cornerbacks than him drop those gimmies. It happens. Moving beyond that, Newman is just getting worked. You match poor technique (which he's demonstrated for years now) with declining physical skills and the end result is the absolute rubbish he's displayed the past four games. What's even more troubling his hot-n-cold effort. There are times when he fills in the run, and then other times he literally allows himself to be taken out of plays. How many times have we seen this scenerio: running back gets to the second level and Newman is backpedaling 20-yards down the field as the receiver is "blocking" him? There is no distinct differences between T-New's few remaining apologists and Roy Williams (the safety) during his last few seasons with Dallas. It's really a complete denial of acknowledging what's happening on the field in favor of loyalty to their particular favorite player.
  • I don't see the hub-bub with the failed Romo to Austin would-be game-clinching pass. The pass, although seemingly close, looked well out of reach of Austin. Remember, Austin is coming off his chronically bum hammy. While he may have been able to play and contribute in a game, I highly doubt his hammy is 100% good as new.
  • I think the criticism of Rob Ryan has to be nuanced. At the end of the day a huge percentage of the blame has to lay at the feet of the players. Rob Ryan isn't calling coverages to allow a WR to run completely scott-free down the field. Rob Ryan is calling plays that incorporate his d-line and OLBs to not be able to win their matchups and bring pressure. Rob Ryan isn't calling plays that involve Terence Newman playing soft and giving up play after play. I have a hard time blaming Ryan too much when he's hamstrung by ineffective players such as Bradie James and Newman. Yes, he may have gotten blitz crazy, but I don't blame him too much when his pressure players failed to disrupt Manning consistently.
  • The DeMarco Murray injury was gruesome. However, it looked to be the same torsional fracture that Dez Bryant had last season. The fact he could even put weight on his leg tells me it was an injury to the smaller fibula bone. I think he'll be alright.
  • My preseason prediction of 9-7 seems to be the likely outcome of the season. And I think that's an accurate reflection of what the Cowboys are currently, an above average team.
  • I can't stand Jacobs more than any single player in any sport, but I don't blame him for doing what he does.

    Why?

Because we don't have a single player on defense with any gusto, and that includes Ware. Bradie James doesn't have sac to get in Jacobs face. T-New is to busy patting Jacobs on his helmet and rear to care about the Star.

I'm not that big on symbolism et cetera, but have some freakin' pride. I appreciated what George Teague did to TO. I appreciated the fact the Star meant something to Emmitt.

Pretty spot on.

The offseason will be pretty interesting as I expect a fair amount of blood letting.

But we have at least three games left. I'd like to get some parting shots in at some other teams before we get to the end.

Great points all around.

Agree 100% on Jacobs. That dance pissed me off to no end. But I didn't see any Cowboys getting fired up over it.

And re: Newman...There was one play, think it was a TD, where he was just basically jogging to catch up to the runner. He could've easily caught him if he ran hard, but on instant replays you could see 41 just taking it easy as the Giant ran hard

There's two or three posters on here who will tell you that you and 98% of the membership here have no idea what we are talking about regarding Newman. He is a top tier CB and the best that we have. He is playing out of his mind this year!:lmao2:

That's cause none of them are.

Yeah, they are the same ones that wanted us to hang on to Choice.

Nice job...

And I don't even want to talk about Newman!!

Terence Newman has been a good football player for the Cowboys during his career. Let's just start there. However, I can see Newman has faded in games during the last two 4th quarters. I thought Newman played good against Miami, except when he chose to panic and not play the football on the Marshall TD. The Washington game was not good for him. The Arizona game was really bad for him, in the 4th quarter, especially when he gambled and jumped a curl route that led to a 40 yard play. Last night saw another 4th quarter collapse by Newman. Newman's age may be catching up with him as the team heads down the stretch. Newman looked like he had no legs at the end of the Giants game.

Newman was playing good football going into the 2nd Washington game, but last night's 4th quarter play was bad. The end may very well be near for Newman in Dallas, but they are not exactly stacked at that position. Mike Jenkins is a legit starting CB in the NFL, but his durability this year has been an issue. Orlando Scandrick, imo, is not Newman's replacement. The Cowboys need to draft a CB high, but that isn't all they need on defense, by far.

DeMarcus Ware, Sean Lee, and Mike Jenkins look like the only real difference makers to me, players you can build around. That gives you one player at all three levels of the defense.

Newman may still be effective as a part time player next year, and if he will take a salary reduction, he could stay on if the team is willing to play him part time. Newman's last two 4th quarters, late in the season, have seen an obvious drop off.

If Newman makes a routine pick six, Dallas wins the game. Period. It was tough to watch, especially with all the bias against the player, going back for years.

Many of you should be happy, so take joy and celebrate. However, Newman's demise was predicted long, long ago. Some have wanted to replace him before the 2007 draft even though he made two pro bowls after that. If you stay at it every year, eventually, you will be right. So, have fun. Some of you may finally be getting your wish, a good 5 years later.

By the way, DeAngelo Hall has Newman's 2005 and 2006 Pro Bowls, but that will not matter to all the "haters", and I usually don't use language like that. However, it is what it is, in regards to this player.

A prominent member of the Dallas media once stated that Lito Sheppard was better than Newman, and that is the type of press he received in Dallas over the years.

Vela (Cowboys Nation) stated that Miles Austin drifted his route too far to the sideline. That ball appeared to be thrown well, imo.

Evidently, Austin didn't see the football. He had a play if he dives, too. The ball was barely out of his reach.

How about Miles Austin celebrating after his catch at the Giants 30 and then remembering that he is running out of time? Unbelievable. Austin just had to show off, even when the team was losing and running out of time.

I do know that pass is 6 if Robinson or Bryant is running that route.

Bryant drew Cory Webster all night. Revis was on Bryant, too. Dez Bryant is Dallas' most feared WR now, and I think next year, there will be no doubt who Dallas' best WR is on the team.

Dez Bryant

Bryant did nothing last night except catch a TD when the CB forgot to cover him. He just doesn't get open very often. I expect his numbers to be down until team's start doubling up Austin again on every play and leave him one on one. He isn't anywhere close to the player Austin is right now.

We'll see where he is next year but I fully expect Austin to be the #1. There is a gigantic difference in this offense when Austin is healthy. Let's hope he can turn it on in December and get us into the playoffs. It looks like we are going to have to score a lot of points as Ryan's defense has been exposed for a fraud over the last month.

That brings up a question; every game they talk about how the other team took away Dez by playing him with a safety over the top. If this is so effective, and every team can do it, then why do we not do it? Why do we not do this to the other team's best receiver, just take him out of the game?

I think this is BS, or every team would be doing it to the opposing team's best wide out.

We may be the only two big Felix Jones fans on this board. Gimmesix is one, I think. We agree on Felix.

16-106 (6.62) LG 26

22 touches 137 total yards 6.22 YPT

Greetings.... From Felix!

You are right. Miles Austin is a good player, and the Cowboys need him. However, Bryant was drawing the Giants best CB all over the field for most of the night, and Webster had safety help, too.

Austin did help open things up in the passing game, though.

I like Austin, but I don't like the showing off. (ex. see his strutting and Spider-man jump at Minnesota) Plus, he picked a bad time to drift his route towards the sideline and loose a ball in the lights.

Time will tell, but Dez Bryant is one of the most gifted players in the NFL. When Braynt fully "gets it", he will be unstoppable.

Unless the defense turns it around, the playoffs look grim.

12 point lead with 5:41 left...That should be on ice.

Who's bright idea was it to leave Ball on Nicks one-on-one?

Too much blitzing and man coverage in that game...

Blown coverages...

Last year, the Cowboys beat Manning by playing zone and mixing coverages.

Well, keep in mind that Austin was coming back from a multiple game injury, and Robinson was quesionable to play.

Who would you have double covered?

Not only that, but how much of a bargain he is at 8million dollars a year. Oh yeah I think that number goes down to 5 or 6 mil next year.

That should have been "lose" the ball. above

I didn't want DeMarco Murray to get hurt, but if Murray doesn't get hurt, does Felix Jones see over 5 rushes in that game.

Dallas should have run Jones at Arizona (6-36) 6.0 YPC, and they may have won that game. Jones rushed (16-77) 4.8 YPC in 2010, and he did it with a significantly deteriorated offensive line and no Fiammetta. That 2010 right side was horrendous (Colombo and Davis).

Isnt there someone that has the game vid by quarters?

EDIT: nevermind, I found. I was in the wrong section! Kilyin kindly posted them Thank You!

Teams sometimes put their best CB on the #2 WR of the other team so they can then put their second best CB on the #1 WR and add a double team. I suspect this is what happened last night but I don't have the All-22 film to confirm this.

Bryant is good but he needs to learn how to become a WR. He will be Jimmy Robinson's project for the summer. Hopefully he takes his game to the next level. Our best chance at becoming a contender is to go the NO route and develop an elite offense. We are two above average OL away right now.

BTW, I'm a big Felix fan. He had a great game yesterday outside of the fumble which was mostly an unbelievable play by JPP. However, Felix does have a tendency to put the ball on the ground. That is his 4th this year but 3 have been recovered. He really needs to work on this in the offseason. Tiki Barber and AP solved their fumbling problems so hopefully Felix can, too.

There was a big difference between Felix and Murray last night - you can just feel Felix's burst and quickness when he is out there. Murray is more of a long-strider.
