14. Dallas Cowboys: Alabama FS Dre Kirkpatrick
Some of the buzz coming out of the NFL Combine is that a number of NFL teams are now looking at Alabama DB Dre Kirkpatrick as the top safety prospect in the draft. Either way the Cowboys have needs still at both corner and safety and Kirkpatrick is the kind of versatile athlete that could play a big role at either spot.

Still dont see anything but D Line or pass rush. Cant see them going for a tweener DB in round 1.

Interesting, but I think #14 is a little high for him.

He is tall which can be a good thing, but the guy needs to eat a few biscuits. He is extremely light in the pants for someone that is 6'4. (especially trying to play safety) He will get flattened trying to stop anything in the running game.

Well, they better not want him to tackle because the guy is not very good at that. He does not get down and put a shoulder into it. That's not good in a Safety Prospect.

If that was the board, I'd be surprised if the Cowboys did not take Coples or Cox.

I was told that there will be absolutely no one even remotely worth considering as a potential 3-4 DE or OLB at #14, but I see 4 guys projected to go between picks #11 and #16 there who project to one of those positions.

This is so confusing.

Who told you that?

I think Garrett would rather bite off his own jimmy than draft Kirkpatrick.

Dang Bunting, put some effort into it.

Take a questionable character guy, and draft him at 14 so you can move him to a new position? You don't take on a project at 14! We don;t even know if he can play FS in the NFL! We don't know if he can play CB in the NFL! We know he could wind up in jail though.

I can't imagine that Coples would fall anywhere near 14.
I'm sure you agree.

Also, we have 3 starting corners, so why did he say we needed another one. We do need another one, but ti would be for depth and development I would assume

Interesting take, early on he was often referred to as the best tackling corner in the class and from what I've seen, he loves to hit. His form could maybe use some work, like most any CB, but I think the kid takes pride in his tackling.

He's not even quite 6'2", 186. Still would need to add a few lbs.

Coples is intriguing. He had a terrible year on tape this year after great tape previously.

He had a bad first day the Senior Bowl but settled and really looked good afterwards. (I watched every second of NFL net coverage but obviously wasn't in attendance)

He looks the Julius Peppers part.... But others have looked great than produced squat so he may not go as high as his athleticism would suggest.

His best role year 1 may well be as a nickel pass rusher in a 4-3 DE.

And who's to say he wants to play S? Corners make more dough than Safeties.

I'd pass on him as a Safety at 14, now if we trade down, pick up a pick and he's still there...maybe.

Didn't he play DT this past year?

he played a little of both, so yes.
I guess we'll see come draft day. I don't think he slips out of the top 10. Jacksonville and Carolina both like him, I'm told. But it wouldn't shock me if Jax traded down and Carolina grabbed an Olineman either.

I understand your point, but with the game being more of a passing game, and safeties needing to be better in pass coverage vs. run support, do you think that's becoming less of a priority? Seems to me, safeties as a whole are becoming worse tacklers (just my take).
