What a waste. Should be 2-0.
What bugs me the most is that we didn't jam Moss at the line on the first 70 yarder and we had the wrong 2 guys in coverage on top of that. I know we are trying to get Newman in the slot, but I agree with posters saying we didn't make the key adjusment. We left Roy and Glenn on Moss who was the only weapon that worked for Washington that whole evening.
Ok we got burned on the first one for 70 yards and it was one hell of a throw and a good catch. The receiver cut across and ran right to where only he could get to it. What bugs me is we leave Roy, who for 2 years now everyone has stated from owner, coaches, to every fan, is not a cover safety, in coverage. Then we leave our shortest of our 3 best corners, who isn't as fast as Newman on Moss when he just got burned by him. No adjustment. No coach telling him to jam Moss at line so he doens't get down field. With our improved pass rush (5 sacks to that point) we should be jamming Moss at line so he can only get so far down field right.
I blame the coaches, secondary, Zimmer, Parcells for this loss. The play calling at 2nd and 4 from midfield at end of game before the 2 minute warning bothered me too. Why not take a timeout. Do another run play to get the first down and still get the two minute warning stopping the clock then with one timeout left.
Anyway, I will say this, I'd be more upset if we deserved to lose the game throughout, but we giftwrapped it at the end. I thought for 56 plus minutes we dominated that game, particularly defensively. We squandered too many chances on offense though. We had like a 10 minute text book drive in first quarter that ended in the missed field goal that came back and haunted us.
Positives are run defense (Tomlinson and now Porter were non factors). Sacks. We are getting pressure and sacks on QB, from a variety of players, not just one. Young D guys are looking like they have huge potential - Spears, Canty, Ware are all capable and learning. Bledsoe played pretty well again and is leading/bus driving. Funny Bill might be overreacting. He let Vinny be aggressive but the gameplan/playcalling by Parcells and Payton had Drew, who has been throwing well, being very conservative. I think Drew has shown some nice touch on the deep ball this year, and done better than Vinny at throwing the ball away or to safer spots with lesser likelihood of interception. BUT LETS STOP FUMBLING THE SNAP please. Is that 3 or 4 in two games now.
The yards don't show it, but I think Julius is a top notch back. He has improved his avoidance of negative runs, and remains tough to tackle. We played against a couple of decent run defences.
Oline pass protected well. Need to rewatch the holding calls, but I'm not so sure we can pin this on Flo as has been vogue around these parts for a bit. Pretty marginal/picky calls on those holds from what I saw.
I think this team is young and will learn from this. It does call into question mental toughness again and the propensity for our defense and whole team really to fold in 4th quarter again. Coaching has something to do with this. I remain skeptical of Zimmer as a closer. He seems to gameplan well initially but is stubborn and doesn't adjust well in game at all. Nor does Zimmer seem to come up with the correct go for the jugular game calling at end of game. Remember, we just about lost to San Diego in last second too, and botched about 5 games in 2nd half last year as well. There is a pattern there.
