I don't think he's even eligibile for PUP.

Adam?

Thought that was for non-football related injuries.

PUP list is for players who come to camp hurt and can not play. If they get hurt during camp they can not go on PUP

That is a separate list: NFI.

Like you have if you get in a car wreck, injure your arm "picking up the phone", drop a mirror on your foot or tear your knee up "playing with your two year old".

I believe the rule is that anyone with an injury that happened before camp opens (i.e. they didn't play in TC) can start on PUP.

Last I hear was during rookie minicamp, either Parcells or one of the sports writers said Cowboys expect Burnett to be ready to go in early August which would be 7 months after his injury. Assume at this point he progressing on schedule but we probably will hear more during vet minicamp 2-4 June.

Does Kevin Burnett begin the season on PUP?

I'm not sure it's a big deal if Burnett is 100% healthy when we start the season We now have plenty of depth at linebacker to get it done with Boiman, Shanle, Singleton, James, Thornton, etc.

Parcells hordes linebackers as much as he does tight ends. In fact remember last year when Shanle filled in for Dat when he was hurt? He did an admirable job and that's why we resigned him in the first place.

i think thornton is going to be too slow to be able to cover backs or tight ends.

I doubt they would ask him to do much of that. He's going to be a pass rush end in the nickel or a the designated rush OLB in the 34 if he sticks. JMO

He's also been slowed by injuries. When healthy he's actually pretty fast for his size. Although I do agree he'll be more of a pass rusher.

Thornton did well to disrupt things when healthy. He gets 100% out of that body of his.
