Police: Burress has profanity-laced tirade during latest traffic stop
Former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress has been cited for five traffic violations in the past month in Florida, and the last one came with a profanity-laced tirade against a police officer, the New York Post reports.
Burress, released on Friday by the Giants, also faces 3-1/2 years in prison on weapons charges in New York. Broward County deputy sheriff Donald Harris stopped him on March 18 for speeding and driving recklessly.
When Harris approached Burress' SUV, the receiver said (via the Post), "F- - - you! You're going to be in a lot of trouble. I know the sheriff personally."
Police told the Post that Burress answered every communication from Harris with "F--- you."
Harris claimed he stopped Burress, who crossed several lanes of traffic to access an exit, "like he was going to kill somebody."
Burress claimed to know Broward Country Sheriff Al Lamberti and told Harris, "You're going to hear about this by the end of your shift!"
A sheriff's department spokeswoman told the Post that Lamberti had never met Burress.
The receiver, who e-mailed ESPN with gracious comments about his time in New York after his release on Friday, appeared at the Final Four on Saturday. Asked about being let go by the Giants, Burress told ESPN "I feel great."
