That is the question I ask myself when I evaluate the talent on the team and pretend I actually have some power as a fan to effect the roster.

So if you had a team full of Sam Hurds (use your fantasy and picture them being able to play all the postions on the team) could you win with them...

I think you can win them...

Now do the same with these players

Austin
Watkins
Brown
Procter
Stanback
Carpenter

I think the answer is no you can not win with them.

now go through the roster and exclude people under 3 yrs of service and I think we can still do a bit of roster churning if we wished. The problem of course is the new comers would have no time in our system.

I don't know what to think about Austin. He's doing okay and so is Carpenter in his new role. The others? A team full of them wouldn't even produce the 5-11 seasons we had under Campo.

Players doing just "okay" or "solid" is fine when they are in year 1 or 2... some of these guys are in year 4! Other than QBs, the light should be on by the end of year 2...

...most of these 4 yr or "finesse" guys are GM favs

Carp may have found his nitch but I am pretty sure we can get better there...which is why I think they drafted Hodges and Williams.

It is also true you can't go just with rooks and 1st year players because you need to win now. The end of the year though I would be expecting a good bit of turn over just like this year was.

Ok, gotta admit you got me scratching my head on this one. I mean, I could understand if you had said a team full of Wittens or something, but Sam Hurd? You really think a team full of 2nd stringers could beat anyone? The winless Lions would have beat them. ;)

While I understand your confusion I believe that over achievers like Sam Hurd wins games...Sam has made himself better each and every year but ideally you're right that there is not a lot of physical talent with Sam Hurd

Maybe I can answer it this way does Austin look 4yrs in the league worth better than Ogletree to you... I think they are close to being on par...I would/should expect more from Austin...Do you see a player that you really feel you can rely on with Miles Austin. I do not...How would you rate Crayton...Great/Good/Avg/Poor...I would rate Crayton as Avg to Good...Austin can't beat him out for the job that would make Austin at best just avg. and we should try for better. I hope that helps explain how I am going about thinking my friend.

I curious what we do with P Watkins now that M Hamlin his injured his wrist?

I hope we go through the waiver wires and see if we can find another SS. Maybe K Davis - in that at least he could contribute to STs. Unless we can pick up some other young player who's got potential.

I'm curious how this topic really holds any real relevance to whether we win a lot or not. These guys are going to play roles on this team. Unless you're talking about at some point Romo, Barber, Felix, Witten, Williams, Ware, Newman, James, Ratliff, Jenkins, Scandrick, Hamlin, Bennett, and our entire offensive startling line being out with injuries, all at once, then there is no way we even have to win with just these guys.
