Mayock just said on NFL Network that he talked to multiple GM's around the league and they all had Carter as top 15-20 prior to his injury. Butch Davis loves the kid, great in the locker room, leader, will be on the field for all 3 downs and lined up all over the field.

Where will he be on the 1st day of training camp in S. A.? that is the question?

I just don't get the people complaining who would rather have a lesser talent RIGHT NOW than a much superior talent later on. Just me I guess.

I told people this earlier...

Injury was in November, if I remember right, on what they said yesterday. So when TC opens, that is 9 months. That is plenty of time now days for that injury to be healed and rehabbed.

If anything, they may keep him out or light workouts the first few weeks. If they didn't feel otherwise, I don't think they would have slected him. I think, from what I heard, he will be ready to go. And now with Dallas' training staff to work with, and with Woicik back with us. I would bet on, he will be ready for TC.

agreed. espcially this year considering the lock out , Depending on when they get this done if there's no football till july or august then rookies across the league will be so far behind the curve that very few will be ready to contribute on the field this year anyway . or at least the first 1/4 of the season.

Carter was a great pick. The guy can play. It's a very smart gamble, IMO.

ACL isn't the death sentence it used to be

I like the pick for the potential alone, but I think Kris Jenkins would disagree with you on the injury severity.

That doesn't mean that Carter will continue to have the problems that Jenkins has had, but it doesn't mean he won't either.

Just sayin..............

As someone who has had two acl repairs. I can tell you it takes more than 6 months to be physically back and a year or more mentally

I don't have a problem with this pick, he's already cleared to workout and is running and cutting. I actually remember seeing him play and play well 2 years ago. He is not needed to start right away, we have Brady and Lee.

Furthermore, Wes Welker had that same type injury in a playoff game in January and was ready at the start of training camp.

IIRC, this is Carter's second ACL injury/surgery (I don't know if it's the same knee). You can take that two different way; he knows what goes into rehab and what works, what doesn't; or, his athleticism could be somewhat sapped because of the multiple injuries.

Where have you heard/read that?? I only know of one ACL injury.

Must have misread it. It looks like it just might be the one. Let me check some more though.

I've had two, too. And it really doesn't. It's just about a nine month rehab, especially with the resources this guy will have available. And, if there's no cartilage damage, the repaired ligament will actually be stronger than the original.

The only hurdle is mental, because there's a tendency to favor the injured leg for a while.

Hopefully, Carter will be what Dallas wanted Kevin Burnett to be. There is no doubt about his talent. He should be able to start in 2012, and I hope he can play coverage this year. He's talented, and the Patriots drafted a WR from NC who had an ACL. They red-shirted him, and now he is playing and good.

Chris Canty is a good example of over coming injuries and getting a really good value.

You draft for your future, not for one year. I'm o.k. with this pick, because they are calling him a top 15-20 player if not for the injury.

I'd much rather just follow the board and let the draft come to you, instead of all the constant trading down. That happened this year.

That is what happened this year.

My bet is that you didn't have a specialist on facility 24/7 for that specific problem as the Cowboys do...and the only one's in the NFL that do.

No, I'm with you. I think it's crazy. But every pick will be complained about. Just roll with it.

Coming into camp, he could be no higher than 4th in the interior linebackers to begin with. That's just the way it is...but the Cowboys HAD to fill out roster spots.

Now, when old age flicks need to now, he won't have been a poor choice. And that was the why.

This was a Rob Ryan pick...and projecting HIS defense into the future.

I'm only skeptical because I thought Carter was better suited to play OLB in a 4-3 defense
