So after drafting Lamb at 17, I have already starter hearing comments that Gallup will be gone, sooner rather than later. I really like Gallup and don't want to see that happen. He has 2 years left on his rookie deal but has obviously out played that. I think this WR trio is now probably the best in the NFL.

Can they keep all three?
I doubt it past 2021
Will there be enough targets to go around?
I can't imagine there will be
Will he be traded?
I think it's better to trade him than lose him, but now or after this season?
What could we get for him?
IMO, at least a 3rd

What are your thoughts?

Fans will believe anything they "hear". It keeps the hack media people in business.

Teams play 3 WRs sets over 70% of the offensive snaps.

The 2018 Rams played 3 WRs sets about 95% of the snaps.

The Cowboys had near zero significant prospects to play as the 3rd WR (slot WR or backup to the the 2 outside WRs).

WR has become one of the top valued positions in the NFL. It surpassed CB and to some extent LT.

Most valued positions in the modern NFL:
QB
WR & Pass Rusher (Pass Rusher can include DTs like Aaron Donald)
LT & CB

1. They can definitely keep all three for the next two years. Good chance either we let Gallup walk or trade Cooper for picks after that though.
2. No problem with targets. We'll probably play 10% more 11 personnel than last year though which is consistent with McCarthy anyway.
2019 targets: Cooper 119, Gallup 111, Cobb 83, Witten 83, Jarwin 41, Austin 24

I think this gives them flexibility with Cooper. If he does not live up to his contract in 2020, maybe they let him go, depending on how Lamb does in the NFL.

No you don't trade Gallup (unless it's a stupid trade heavily slanted in our favor).

One, Lamb is a stud but who knows, maybe he doesn't pan out?

Two, if Lamb pans out, you've given yourself some flexibility in terms of cap........... if Gallup explodes and becomes way too expensive, you can let him walk in FA and still have Cooper and Lamb. Or, maybe in a couple years, when it becomes financially workable, you can cut Cooper.

If anyone it will be Cooper that’s most expendable.

He's guaranteed $30M in salary the first two years (in addition to $4M of prorated bonus.

After 2021, none of his salary is guaranteed and the Cowboys would save $16M in cap savings by letting him walk.

If he's on the roster on July 5, 2022, another $20 million becomes fully guaranteed.

Did you mean to say Cooper will be gone? That makes sense.

You keep all three until the next big decision is needed. Resigning Gallup while keeping Cooper on his new deal was likely not going to happen anyway. Now it looks like it will come down to keeping Cooper and letting Gallup walk for a comp pick or releasing/trading Cooper down the line and giving his money to Gallup. Either way, the team now has options at the position for the future. One less thing to worry about now.

WR is 2rd right now in term of positional value for the franchise tag. Just above DE . The gulf between WR/DL and CB/LT will probably grow with Cooper and Buckner getting over 20 million

I find it funny some have already decided Lamb is better than Gallup. Lamb was dynamic against the horrible defenses of the Big 12. I don't think he'll dominate the NFL, but I do believe he'll be a solid contributor.

If you thought they could keep the original 2, why wouldn’t you think they can keep all 3? They will have rookie contract control of Lamb for 5 years! lol

We wait to see what happens with the 3 this year. If they blow eveyone away then they will keep all three as long as they can.

I think fans are looking at this the wrong way. This was a pure BPA pick. It wasn't a question of "when will we need Lamb", this pick is Jerry and Stephen going "our #6 player is still there, let's buff the crap out of the receiver room."

Where did you hear gallup is gone? Did the NFL go back to the 80's and the pro set formation?
