Went to a sportsbar and watched about 5 games at once at 1:00 and then 3 games at once at 4:00...
1) The eagles are a lot better than I thought they'd be this year. However, if anyone would cover the TE and Westbrook out of the backfield...the eagles couldn't move the ball. I think the key to beating Philly is NOT to blitz Mcnabb but drop 6-7 into coverage and let your front 4 get after him. JMO.
Also, I don't think the NYG will beat Philly 2x this year.
2) The skins are a LOT better team when they have Portis. (and play the Texans) Sure it was the Texans, but they still looked like they executed a lot better. I'm very surprised they scored 30 points. I didn't think they could score 30 points with no defense out there. Of course, if you cover the flat (esp the backs and WR screens), Brunell will throw it in the dirt. Wash's defense is no where near as good as they were last year. You wonder if their defensive success last year was a lot like ours was a few years ago...smoke and mirros capped off with a lot of luck.
BTW, if we don't score 40 on Houston and shut them out...then it should be counted as a loss...last year's University of Texas was far more talented than the Texans...
3) Indianapolis beat a VERY good team. Although Indy's OL got away with a LOT of holding (of course Indy was playing at home). And I'd put money on Jax given the same circumstances except in a playoff game.
Another piece I learned from this game...like Denver, any decent back in Indy's system looks pretty good. Losing Edge wasn't that big of deal apparently as Indy's OL is pretty good and the passing threat means a back is running against 5-6 man fronts usually. BTW, Freeney is so overrated it isn't funny.
4) The NYG are a lot worse than I thought they'd be. They have to go back to giving Tiki the bulk of the load and take it off of Eli. Eli isn't good enough to carry a team. Only when all the pressure is off can Eli look good. NYG's passrush isn't as good as I thought it would be.
NYG's secondary....I like our chances of toasting them all day.
5) Green Bay beats a bad team (barely) and now we'll have to hear all week how "Favre still has it" :bang2: gag
That Greg Jennings is a stud. He was on my draft wish list, as I know he was on that of several others here too. He is a good player.
6) Ravens are definitely good and have a great defense, but they are quite beatable
7) It doesn't matter how much talent is in Arizona, they will find a way to lose. I think that franchise is cursed. BTW, STL is who knows what to make of them. I think StL is just above the horrible teams in the league but pretty low on the list of the middle-tier teams.
8) Chicago is good and they are legit SB contenders if their offense plays fairly well. They are a lot better than I thought they would be and won (although perhaps they shouldn't have) a VERY tough, hard-nosed game. Although early, this game probably already determined the division outcome.
9) Minnesota is probably a playoff team but they'll have to get a wildcard now. They lost to Chicago at home, they won't win at Chicago either. Make no mistake though, Minny is tough. Funny how much better they are with a 98 yr old at QB than they were with Daunte w/out R Moss. Also coincidentally, Miami adds Daunte and looks MUCH worse than they did end of last year before Daunte...HMMMMMMM
10) Tampa Bay isn't going to the playoffs. They aren't very good. As a matter of fact, Carolina isn't all that good either. Both teams are huge disappointments. I think Carolina will get better and make a run at a wildcard and we may have to beat them (week 5 or 6?) to get in.
11) The Bills looked tough the first two weeks and I thought they could be somethin....but I was wrong. Turns out that the Miami they beat last week is pretty bad and NE may not be as good as I thought.
12) Cincy is outstanding. They very well may be the best team in the AFC. Cincy-Indy matchup should be very entertaining. Will be a LOT of seriously talented WRs in that matchup. (some with, some without prison records):laugh1:
BTW, the Steelers are good and tough, but they're just not talented enough and Rothlisberger is getting exposed this year. Not that he's a bad QB or anything, he's just not the second coming of Marino or Montana like some thought last year. There ain't gonna be a repeat.
13) a number of games this week (Jax-Indy, Carolina-Tampa, Balt-Cleveland, Chicago-Minny) showed us how important it is to have a good kicker. As if we didn't already know.....
