Byrd and a conditional pick

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

But then you have to win the waiver claim.

True...but I really think Byrd makes this team...or at least should. And personally I think the Cowboys should stay away from the potential Sam circus...no offense to Sam, but our media would break out the 3 rings for that acquisition.

He sure seems to be a good player though. Wish this team had "problems" like that.

Is Sam a WDE or SDE? He's bigger and slower like a SDE but he only has pass rushing skills, not run stuffing, like a WDE.

I'm pretty sure Sam isn't bigger, he's smaller. That was one of the things that pushed him down the draft board was lack of elite quickness and a small size. I think he's more likely a WDE because I doubt he can play the run that strong.

He seemed a little short and stocky. That's why I assumed SDE. But I guess he just doesn't an NFL body. If he had ideal size, he'd be a #1 pick. Guy has undeniable skill.

Sam plays the strong side and you are correct he doesn't really fit that side because of size and run stopping not being a strength. Westbrooks has shown to be the better prospect of the two.

IIRC there was also some question about his ability because he got his sacks in bunches against weaker teams without top end players on the offensive line. IE he wasn't beating A&M and Bama linemen for sacks he was beating Arkansas State and Vanderbilt linemen for sacks. He'd still be worth a shot for us, but I don't think I'd want to give up a pick because I'm not sure he's that good of a gamble.

I wouldn't give up a pick. I'd give up a good player at a position of strength for us (i.e. WR Byrd).

Why not trade Street, he may have more value. IMO Byrd outplayed Street anyway.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Getting this organization to divest itself of a 5th round draft pick and possibly reveal somewhat limited drafting abilities might be difficult, though. Many FOs are quite sensitive about such things. We've been one of them in the past.

I'm still surprised we didn't end up with Westbrooks, I thought for sure we'd get him as an UDFA and it looks like he's doing well. Boooooo
