Byron Jones must grow into leadership role in third year with Cowboys

FRISCO, Texas -- Byron Jones now knows how quickly things can change in the NFL.

Entering his third year with the Dallas Cowboys, the only player in the room with more starting experience than him is cornerback Orlando Scandrick, who is entering his 10th season.

“Two years in, I guess I got tenure,” Jones joked Sunday at the Taste of the Cowboys event benefiting the North Texas Food Bank.

Jones, the Cowboys’ first-round pick in 2015, has started 27 games in two seasons. With the departures of Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox to free agency, the Cowboys lost more than 2,700 snaps from their secondary of a year ago...

Another reason I don't want to completely get rid of Scandrick just yet. He's the only real veteran who knows our system. We need some leadership in the secondary.

Hard to be the leader on the field...if you injured on the sidelines. He has become a walking injury anymore. I am not even sure that last season he has played a full season.

Scandrick should be cut if he comes in with any attitude working with the new corners. When he held out for his money it was business, don't make it personal when the tables turn.

Jones must also need to produce more turnovers.

However to be fair to him, Jones hasn't had a good pass rush to help him.

Don't see how Jones can lead when he blew that big play in the playoffs. He will teach them how to take play offs.

He has every opportunity to grow into the leader Landon Collins has become. I'm rooting for him! Go cowboys!

He is a nice guy. Good player. I like him a lot and followed him for a while since I live in CT. No warrior in him like we see in Sean Lee. Bet one of the rooks takes that leadership role from him in the secondary.

I think Byron has done a good job but even he expects more out of himself than what he has done thus far. Really need to see him getting ints
