Yeah it did backfire.

Mentality was Byron Jones was going to be so expensive that the team could spend the same amount of money and get 3 or 4 defensive starters for the same price

Didn't work out though. Poe, McCoy, Griffen, Worley, and Clinton Dix all where bust. Also kept Crawford who would of saved like 8 or 9 million via cutting.

Poor mangement of the defense this free agency

Byron isn't worth his contract. Just because he'd have been a better keep over Jaylon, that does not mean he should've been paid. That's Jerrythink.

I don't remember anyone making it Zeke or Byron. Wasnt Byron just signed last year?
When did these fake conversations happen?

If you want to say Amari Cooper it would be relevant.

You are right, it was never a conversation.

Now it's just stupid people strawmanning an argument that didn't exist so they can shake their fists in indignation.

Just another indicator that pass coverage has overcome edge defender in the hierarchy of importance. Unfortunately, the way Dallas let Byron walk without any serious effort to see if they could find a deal shows they haven't grasped the concept yet.

It's ok. We got Diggs who get turnovers. He gives up 3 TDs a game, but he got those turnovers.

Who gives a ****? Diggs got 2 yesterday, while also getting burned multiple times. INTs for a single player is so incredibly overrated. Simple fact is, Jones doesn't get targeted a great deal and when he does, QBs don't exactly play well going to his side.

You folks wanted a Diggs, you want a guy who gets turnovers but also gives up points.

Because interceptions are the only thing that matters?

Frankly, I'd rather have the CB who holds opposing QBs to a 60 rating with no interceptions than the CB who has 4 interceptions but also has an opposing QB rating of 95.
Yeah. We don't need a Cromartie or Terrell Buckley type. People's biggest issue with Byron Jones was he wasn't the Revis type who gets you 4 interceptions and the 60 rating.

For this season for sure, but in the long run these big FA overpayments are almost always a loser for the team signing a guy like Byron.

Its a net loss this year, but next year Diggs will be as good or better and Miami will be paying Jones a 16 Million dollar cap hit. I always use the DeMarco Murray contract as the comparison, it was a loss for one year but a big win overall to let him walk.

Unlike Byron Diggs might actually be better suited for safety.

Just a flat out shame that it took the previous coaching staff three years to figure out he was better at CB than Safety.

That may have proven his value and perhaps the front office would have prioritized him over Zeke.
Now that’s the real problem. Some of you posters wanted him cut after year 3. He was getting the Jaylon treatment because he made no plays and could not tackle. One of the idiots on talking Cowboys thought he would be a cut victim when we drafted Chido and Lewis. Good times. Loved Byron as a person but he has no ball skills. His contract would be a gross overpay here.
