Twitter: Caleb Downs has been a nightmare for the offense

he looked kinda small in that video.
and 1 play looked like holding ,and 1 was PI ?
Hope he plays PS, but he may not.

Even in a 25 second clip you can tell he is just in the general area of the football no matter where he lines up.

And remember, he's only going to get better.

A weeks worth of practices, and what, 2 in pads? and he is already the 2nd coming of one of the best safeties to ever play. Only in Dallas does this crap happen. Does anyone see another article on any rookie in the entire league that is generating this kind of talk after a week of practice?

This is not Dallas exclusive hype. People were already comparing him to the best safeties in the pre-draft process. Scouts likened his college impact to guys like Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu because they saw similarities in their film.

Yes it's all hyperbole because Downs hasn't played in an actual game yet. But he's living up to the standard set already in camp and he's not even close to being as good as he's going to be yet.

It's okay to feel good about a player the Cowboys draft. Really, it is.

As an Ohio State fan, I'll again say that Downs is on another level. It was him that drove the defense. He doesn't play like Lott or Reed. Polomolu is probably the closest comparison because he plays all over and just has a preternatural ability to sniff out a play. He obviously does a ton of film work and is good at implementing it in real time. He is a fast processor.

He isn't going to wow people with size or speed. He just thinks and reacts faster than anyone on the field.

If this young man is anywhere in the stratosphere of an ed reed or Troy polamulu it would transform this defense

Downs to me is like Brian Dawkins reincarnated. Dawkins would kill the Cowboys during the McNabb days.

Ed Reed was a very good S but here in Baltimore as much as he was loved he was often criticized for his ad-libbing and doing his own thing when a defensive play was called. I remember hearing a radio interview with a former Ravens player that said when the defense gave up a big TD it was because Reed was not where the call wanted him. But instinctually he was one of the best but he did hang his CB out to dry.

If this kid is anywhere close to being like Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu or a combo of the two...Dallas hit the lottery!

Not sure about Downs ability to play the back end of a defense and make plays so Reed is not someone I think of. But, due to his playmaking ability at the LOS or close to the LOS, I hope he is Polamalu.

Give me a combo of those two and man I'd be ecstatic!
Athletically, Downs and Reed are clones of each other. Coverage abilities are a push. I think Downs is the more physical of the two.

Downs will not be a poor mans anything. He will be the first Caleb Downs.

I hope you are right.

Its not hyperbole. Its projection.
