Caleb Downs is the pick we should make

If Dallas moves up, I hope it is for Styles. They need a Mike real bad…..

If Styles goes early, then moving up for Downs is the next best option.
We covered our rear at safety but are very exposed at LB.
If Downs falls to us that's another matter

If Downs is there, I'm drafting him without blinking.

We need a smart safety way more than most teams. We just had the worst deep pass defense ever, and while talent was a factor, a lot of guys were just never on the correct page. Jalen Thompson looks like the right kind of guy for that job, but again, 32nd ranked pass defense. Let's get two new safeties.

It feels like the top five lock, best player in the draft hype has cooled off on Downs, and he's being re-valued in the right kind of range.

Nick Harris said in his latest mock that Dallas will trade for a LB before the draft. Specifically mentioned Al Shazeer and J. Brooks as options

Probably not getting those guys for less than 92, so I doubt it would happen.

Brooks makes more sense for the Dolphins to hold until the trade deadline when the price could go up for him because they're going to get 4th-round value as a comp pick after this season anyway.
Al Shaair would make sense if Houston drafts somebody, but they fancy themselves as contenders and he'll also net them a pick as a UFA after this year if he walks.

92 for brooks might be worth doing for all parties

Not really. Dallas would either be giving up 92 for a rental OR committing close to ~$20m AAV extension for a 30 year old LBer.

Everyone may very well have to come to grips with the notion that all of the top defenders we covet will be gone by 12. The only one I see maybe being there is Delane, and IMO, he doesn't have the upside to be a 12th pick. Back to back years at #12 without getting an impact player is just unacceptable.
