Caleb Downs named by executives as their pick to win DROY

I don’t believe any rookie safety has received this much hype prior to their first down than Caleb in a very long time.

Of course many great safeties have come before him, but they were admired this much after the fact.

I don’t think this defense, is going to prioritize, one individual player
I think is going to be a defensive strategy, that schemes against the offense that were currently going against
And if for some reason he does shine above the rest well then he deserves it
And not positive, but I think we have four safeties

He'll have to lead the rookies in int's to win that.

Whichever one leads in sacks or int's will win it.
I think he's going to have opportunities for both playing out of the slot. We'll be dropping him into that intermediate range in zone and letting him break forward on passes, I believe, and we'll also be slot blitzing at times as well as expecting him to recognize run quickly and come up to take the outside away.

This is where I believe the scheme that Parker learned and employs differs from typical nickel. The slot defender isn't just a nickel corner who comes in to take away the third receiver, he's a multi-use tool if you have the right player at that spot.

As much as I like Downs and he will probably be very good, it’s going to be very hard for a Safety to win post season awards.
His position is fluid and everyone knows it. But that have to give him something so it's S.

He has a little bit better of chance at winning that than blue did at winning OROY last season. like so many thought he could lol

As much as I like Downs and he will probably be very good, it’s going to be very hard for a Safety to win post season awards. Hasn’t been done since Erik McMillian In 1988 for DROTY. And only Ed Reed, Bob Sanders and Plolmalu have won DPOTY as a safety since 1985.
What he contributes may not always show up on paper, so it may be hard to quantify rookie of the year stat wise. If he has 80 tackles, 3 ints, 10 pass breakups, 7 tfls, and 1 sack I would say he had a very good year. However, if one of the dlinemen or edge players picks up around 10ish sacks I think that gets the votes for the award.

My prediction is Bain.

But very excited to see Downs take the field. Can’t think of the last year I was so pumped with a Cowboys 1st round selection.

It’s going to be pretty interesting how this all breaks out, I mean has anyone seen him play at all this summer?!

Exactly. 3 picks would be amazing. That would be more than he had in any one season in college.
