Caleb Williams claims he may not enter 2024 draft if doesn’t have chance to land up at a ‘desirable’ team

The NFL Draft is always a fun time. The anticipation of which team will select what player is a very exciting feeling. The possibility of finding a gem in the second or third round is what makes this a very exciting process. However, there is a possibility that the consensus first-overall pick for next season, USC QB Caleb Williams, might not enter next year’s draft

I don't buy the NIL money being that big of a factor.

Say he plays football until his body gives out at 35, just for grins. Would you rather play 1 more college season and 13 pro seasons, or 2 more college seasons and 12 pro seasons? That extra pro season is going to be more highly compensated.

One way to look at it. Another way would be why rush to get drafted, I have an insurance policy that protects my future, I'm the big man on the campus (in this scenario USC), plus I get mid six figures already.

Yeah but look at the other side of the coin. He gets drafted to a crap team and doesn't even make it to 13 pro seasons.

David Carr was a better prospect than his brother Derek Carr......but one to a respectable team in the Raiders with some pieces. Then one to the Texans.

I hear he will make 10 million dollars from NIL money this season, so I could see him staying. There are like 6 top rated quarterbacks that are older than Lance that decided to stay in school last season. NIL is making a difference.

He has leverage and it looks like Arizona is his likely destination. The Cardinals also have a shaky coaching situation and may be stuck with Kyler Murray and his contract. They are stripping down the roster, so Caleb may be looking at some really bad seasons before he can try to really turn that team around.

Andrew Luck did this when he wanted no part of Carolina in 2011. Eli Manning punked the Chargers in 2004.

Caleb has plenty of money with national endorsements with Dr. Pepper, Neutrogena, AT& T, Beats by Dre, United Airlines, PlayStation, Fanatics, and more.

Ive seen some 2024 mocks that have Arizona with the 1st and 2nd overall pick due to the Houston Texans trade.

Welp aside from Arizona who are begging for losses and aparenly in full tank mode. his local NFL team, the Rams have a horrendous roster particularly in the trenches. I could see somewhere between 3 to 5 wins for them this year. I am sure he would he would love to be drafted by the Rams.

NIL, endorsements or wherever he gets money from now doesn't matter. He will be a top 2-3 pick at worse in 2023 or 2024. Unless a team trades up for him, he will be going to a bottom feeder team no matter the year. That's just the way the draft works. Ask Aikman.

Matt Leinart went back for another year at USC and ended up dropping in the draft. Anything can happen.

Don't blame him.

IIRC Herbert was thinking of declaring as a junior but stayed at Oregon. I remember Stephen Ross(Miami owner) being very interested(making comments) if he declared but ended up staying.

NIL gives him short-term leverage, because he doesn't need the money.

Waiting might cost him a little bit on the back end, but by that point he'll have made something like $200m and the difference won't matter.

I was guessing he was in the seven figure range with all that USC donor cash .........

Maybe he don’t know how the draft works?
I am sure he is well aware the Cardinals are one of the worst organizations in pro football. Maybe he wants to avoid going there at all costs. Best case his career wont be all it could have been. Worst case a flat out disaster.
