Here are driving instructions on how to arrive at the Training Camp facilities:
Oxnard is on the coast, just 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. The city is an easy 90-minute drive from Los Angeles Airport (LAX), 60 minutes from Burbank (BUR), and 40 minutes from Santa Barbara (SBA).
NORTHBOUND ON THE 101 FREEWAY FROM LOS ANGELES:
Exit Oxnard Boulevard. Turn RIGHT. Make your first LEFT onto Town Center Drive. Make a LEFT onto Ventura Road. Travel one mile down and it will be on your RIGHT before Vineyard Ave. (may be a line to get in the parking lot)
SOUTHBOUND ON 101/126 FREEWAY FROM SANTA BARBARA OR SANTA CLARITA:
Exit Oxnard Boulevard. Turn LEFT and go over the freeway. Make your first LEFT onto Town Center Drive. Make a LEFT onto Ventura Road. Travel one mile down and it will be on your RIGHT before Vineyard Ave. (may be a line)
PARKING: Parking at River Ridge Playing Fields is $10 per vehicle/$20 oversized.
FREE parking passes will be provided to those who stay in an Oxnard hotel. Let the front desk know that you are attending camp when you check in. One pass per hotel room per day.
To Do List
Because the Cowboys only practice for a couple of hours, here are Josh Ellis' recommendations for how you spend the rest of your day in Oxnard...
~ Take a drive up the 101 at sunset. There's no more beautiful a highway in the country. Set on a rocky hillside with view of the Pacific crashing in down below.
~ Eat at the Habit Burger Grill (Habitburger.com) Don't you dare eat a chicken sandwich or salad.
~ Check out the cool nightlife of downtown Santa Barbara, where the peace and love vibes of the '60's have been modernized. If someone showers you with glitter while you walk down the sidewalk, consider it good luck.
~ Visit an area winery. They'll let you sample four to five varietals, and then give you a tour. When they ask if you smell the frangrant notes of vanilla, lilac and polished leather, just tell them what you think they want to hear.
~ Seafood and eat it. Mahi-mahi tacos, ya'll.
~ Drive an hour south to L.A. and people watch outside any place touristy.
~ Obviously, the beach. Obviously.
