Calling all history Buffs. I need some Cowboys related help!

That was a Tex Schramm idea. It was to commemorate the nation's bicentenniel during 1976 season.

And Roger did play for someone else besides his high school team, Navy and the Cowboys. He spent one year after high school playing for New Mexico Military Institute. Their colors are red.

I thought about that game when I found the picture. IIRC, Bob Lilly did the color commentary for CBS that day, and kept stopping in mid-sentence whenever he heard something in his earpiece.

It was the first and last game of his network broadcasting career.
