Do you think this rediculous call should be allowed? Or do you see it as clever strategy? I think its a rediculous rule. That was a low down thing to do. Glad it didn't work. NICK FOLK IS MY HERO!:starspin 53 YARDS - TWICE!!!!

Coaches in both college football and nfl are doing that more and more these days it seems.

Leave the rule alone. It goes both ways. Folk misses that first attempt, and makes the second, and the coach is a major goat. It's a fad that will eventually go away once these coaches start to realize the risk they are taking. The NFL has enough odd rules, why add another.

I forget exactly where I read it, but someone made a good point concerning this "strategy".

Someone will call a timeout right as its snapped, and the kicker will end up shanking it. The next kick will go through and all the blame will go on the coach who gave them an extra kick.

I think it borders on poor sportsmanship, it is kinda cheesy.

Whiny, schoolyard crap.

It will be changed.

I can't wait for the time that it backfires on the "cute" little coach that didn't think of it himself, but only did it because he has seen it on TV.

It will be hilarious when he calls timeout and the kicker misses it, and then after getting a mulligan kicks the game-winner.

I will love that, .. I can't wait for that to happen.:D

It's a chicken**** move.

It should be removed. New rule: inside of 1 minute in any half, no coach shall be allowed to call a timeout once the offense is in a set position.

Not a bad solution to this problem. If this trend were to continue over the long term, I don't think fans would appreciate the loss of suspense that last second fg attempts normally have. Having to see it twice EACH time would taint the game it seems to me.

The time out was not called after the Folk kick. It was called before and the refs did a poor job of stopping the play. You can see on the replay that Jauron was calling time out and the line judge was pretty lax in blowing his whistle to stop the play before the ball was snapped.

I don't like that the rules currently allow for it, but I would be pissed if my coach did not try to use it to his advantage while it is available.

Obviously Jauron was calling for the TO but they have the luxury this season of telling them when they want it called so he may have been indicated TO but telling the ref when exactly he wanted it called and the trendy thing this year is to do it right at the snap of the ball for the fg attempt.

There's another thread about this, let me sum it up for you.

Person A: It's part of the game, it could work either way, let it stay. Adds to the strategy.

Person B: It's cheap and should be taken out, because the coach and ref are the only people aware of the timeout.

Then that goes back and forth for a few pages.

I personally have no problem with the coach calling a timeout as long as he's not doing it intentionally so the play will still develop. And that's what happened last night, he intentionally called it so the ball would still get snapped. That's just cheap in my eyes. If Wade Phillips did it I'd still say it was cheap.

They still have to guess when the snap will occur. They can't tell the ref to stop the clock when the ball is being snapped. They can request the time out with a certain amount of time on the game clock or play clock or just call time out. Jauron was yelling at the ref to go, go, go to get the time out. The ref then took about 2 seconds to then blow his whistle. That is on the refs. That is the part that needs to be fixed.

Well I meant before but i worded it wrong. It 'appeared' like it was after but on this forum if you don't say everything exactly right, then the grammar police are quick to correct you. I think most knew what I meant.

During a a postgame interview, Folk said him and Brad changed the snap count for the second kick and actually got one the Bills to jump. So perhaps if the defense is not paying attention, this is a way to combat this timeout thing. If you rewatch the last kick, you can see the leftmost Bill defender jump offsides.

The part that needs to be changed is the part where the opposing coach gets to decide in advance whether the kick will count or not. Regardless of the intent of the rule, that is what happened here.

When does the opposing coach get that decision? I just don't see the reason for an uproar against Jauron calling time out before the ball is snapped. It is up to the officials to make everyone aware that a time out has been called. They are the ones that did a poor job.

Right, and had he missed the 2nd kick, we would have gotten a 3rd chance from 48 yds.
