How does this year, at this time, look and feel compared to last year, this time? Asking because this is the first off-season I've ever watched this closely, so I don't have anything to compare it too...
Looks better that last year. Except, a K is still a concern as last year.
Looks better because of the defense.
Offense Wr better, OL about the same, RB a concern to me.

McCarthy was kicked out of GB because his offense and play calling got stale.

We need to worry about Oline depth, but its because we have to worry about our injured starters.

I do have oline as my concern. As for Mike, the same could be said for Moore. That's why I think that Moore's departure was time. I look forward to seeing how Mike's playcalling has evolved since then.

I think it's better for 3 reasons. One, we aren't having the same drama we did last year. Secondly, I think the FO did well improving the strength of our team (defence). We needed a top NT for a long time, and I think we got one. Thirdly, I think the retention of DQ was probably the biggest move and acquisition this offseason. I'll add a 4th as well, I also like how we got Cooks. I think he will bring speed to our team.

Like most coaches when they get stale. They are gone. Garrett last 7 years longer here than he should have.
Mostly because the talent is not as good as well.

All teams have OL depth issues To a degree. No team is 8 to 10 deep there. Not even the Eagles.
Who can argue with such genius?

I hope Mazi is what a lot here think and his athleticism translates to playmaking. If it does, our D will be very very good. I loved the Gilmore signing and will be nice to see year two out of Clark and Sam Williams.
I am worried about K, RB2, and Wr3

I look forward to a change, but there is no indication that MM is a certain improvement. As the original poster made it sound like.

It will be an improvement if he does not call stupid plays and the wrong times such as Moore did.
Like just get the 1st down on 3rd and short instead of going for a 40 yard pass. I understand it to a degree, big play catching them off guard. But sometimes. Just take the 1st down.

I do think he will put the offense in a better position to succeed with those type of plays. Rather it comes from Dak or Pollard or Dak to one of the TE”s, or WR”s.

We both know why there should be an improvement in the offense.

However if the Oline has injuries and poorly blocks none of this will matter.

He got kicked out because he had the greatest quarterback in the world, and only one ring. Sarcasm all over the place.

My OP was to say that I think he can be an improvement. I know he was terrible at the end with Green Bay, but I think his style of the WCO can be a good thing for Dak. I think Dak is well suited for the WCO, and I think Mike can help Dak by tailoring a version of the WCO that suits Dak. I think Mike is experienced enough to do that. This is why I think he can and should be an improvement. Not trying to say he will be, but I expect that he should be.

Please prove this claim.

https://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/scoutingreport2016dprescott.php

He was scouted as being similar to Russell Wilson and Donovan McNabb. His mobility, ability to throw catchable balls, and arm capabilities, plus his comparisons (both of whom flourished under a form of WCO) are signs thay the WCO should be a good fit.

We are currently in the calm before the storm. What I mean by that is that the minicamps are over. The storm is training camp, preseason, and so forth all the way to the Super Bowl. So, I will give my take on what I'm excited about for the team, where I have concerns, and what I'll be watching to see the team do.

Excited - There is a lot to be excited for imo. First and foremost, I'm excited about our defence. I think Mazi Smith is going to be a major cog in our machine. He and Hankins will be able to free up a lot of room for the rest of the team, and Micah Parsons should have more open space to get to the QB. Also, a new season means new possibilities. It's a fresh slate. So, it means new and exciting possibilities.

Concerns - I have two major concerns. Kicker and oline depth. I think we need to have a kicker or multiple kickers brought into camp to compete. You can't always end a drive in a TD, and you need someone reliable to convert extra points. Plus, sometimes, you need a field goal to win the game. So, I expect a kicker like Gould, Crosby, a USFL kicker, and/or other possibilities to be brought in by camp. Oline depth is the other area of concern. I know our starting line is good. But injuries happen in football. The depth is questionable imo.

What I will be particularly watching this year - The biggest thing I'll be watching will be how Dak takes to the WCO. I think Mike McCarthy is an excellent playcaller. He proved he was in Green Bay. For those that have a go at him, he's got a Lombardi and several NFCC appearances as a playcaller. He's highly experienced. My thinking is that part of the reason Dak had a lot of turnovers (some of which were not his fault, such as the ball that Schultz tipped against Tennessee) last year was because we had been running practically the same offense for 6 years. Yes, he was successful for the first few seasons in it, but you can't run the same offense in the NFL and expect to continually be successful. There must be evolution to the playbook. Plus, when you look at Dak's scouting report, his strengths fit more with the WCO. I've been pleading for us to switch to the WCO as it means the WRs will be able to continue their momentum with the routes in the WCO. Since Dak does well with checkdowns, the WCO will allow him to do that, and the WRs can use their speed. So, this is the biggest thing to me. I think that it is incumbent on Dak to succeed this season as he will now be with an offense that I think fits his style better.

By and large, I am very excited for this season. We have had 2 12-5 seasons, and we won our first road playoff game in 30 years last year. I know, I know, the opponent wasn't the most challenging. However, we won that game. I think this season should be exciting because our defence got better in the offseason imo, and I think our offense will be using a system that should fit the team better. The biggest questions to me are kicker, oline depth, and how will Dak take to a system that should benefit him. I'm also looking forward to seeing which of the young players in TC and preseason will step up and prove themselves to be the answer to some of our key questions for the team.
Your major concern should be the Cowboys putrid run defense. They were ranked fourth worst in the league in 2022.

I think the big issue there was after Hankins got hurt. We only had one semi-legitimate NT when he was in the lineup. Now that we have him and Mazi Smith, that's more of an excitement that I have for this team than a concern. I'm excited that we finally got a top NT in the draft. I think that Mazi and Hankins will be a big reason why the run defence becomes much better.
