helping the inside match the outside desire.
i wrote that long ago when i was ... oh hell i don't even know anymore but we sure could use some leadership like this these days. but what is our problem? why do we fall when we need to fly?
here's where i put this.
wade.
then garrett.
every time we have a blown assignment, or a bad loss, here comes wade to say "now now, these are good guys and we'll get it turned around...everything will be ok..."
when jimmy was here, he'd be throwing people off the plane on the way home and screaming FALSE START THAT ******!.
simply put...there is no "fear of failure" on the team. we fail, wade says it's ok. and for a coach in waiting, garrett isn't changing that mindset. so as long as wade baby's everyone and wants to be their friend, that's not what we need right now and as long as we have that mindset, we'll have players out there screwing up because they know if they do, "it's ok... it will all be ok".
no. it won't. it's not ok to keep losing and it's not ok to keep excusing it away because it's easier than dealing with it. this won't get better on its own and romo in my mind has come a long way this year in his leadership skills.
but failure today has no cost. no run 10,000 laps after practice for every foul you committed. no fine for fumbles and no sense of urgency to be more than we are today.
why? cause what we are today is fine and it will be ok. as long as that's what we hear we'll keep waiting for it to be that. but as long as we have that leadership mentality, this is all we'll ever be. i think the players have taken it as far as they can on their own.
