Cowboys need to do what it takes to get Cam Newton.
What the fans would say: Why draft Cam Newton when we got other areas of need?
Because of Future considerations of a Quarterback for the franchise, Tony Romo hasn't show me anything other that he could make it to the playoffs but lose big games, and also hurt the Cowboys when he goes down. Cowboys need a franchise Quarterback.
When Tony Romo goes down, John Kitna, who's not getting any younger, comes in and have to get into the swing of things which take two or three games for him to do. In the mean in between time, the Cowboys is taking losses.
For example, when Tony Romo sprain his pinky finger and was out 4 weeks which hurt us with Brad Johnson coming in taking the place of him and then Bollinger, and the result of that was 1-3 record in the 4 weeks. Oh yeah by the way, the defense won that game for us.
Then, there was this year that pass where Tony Romo hurt his non-throwing shoulder and was out for the rest of the season and the Cowboys still suffered meaning not making it to the playoffs. People understand that Tony Romo hurt this team in one way or another.
First of all, one my arguments is also about the height and the leadership of the Quarterbacks on this team. You have Tony Romo who is 6-2 who don't have a personality of a leader, Jon Kitna who is 6-1 who is a leader by example as far as playing but he's not the franchise quarterback and he just have a year or two left, then there is Stephen McGee, a quarterback who show that he can win a football game against a team that wasn't playing with starters and he is a year to year player meaning if he have a bad year he could possibly gone.
Now, with Cam Newton who is 6-6 and have all the tools to be a superbowl quarterback in this league with the Cowboys have most of all leadership and he's a winner meaning he shows up in big games and that's what Cowboys are missing. As far as the height factor, I feel like he could see better than Tony Romo meaning he has to scramble less than Romo to see his target, Cam could be in the pocket until somebody gets in close or blitz.
As far as height lets look at superbowl Quarterbacks from 1989 to Present that won the superbowl.
1989 - Joe Montana 6-4
1990 - Phil Simms 6-4
1991 - Mark Rypien 6-4
1992 - Troy Aikman 6-5
1993 - Troy Aikman 6-5
1994 - Steve Young 6-5
1995 - Troy Aikman 6-5
1996 - Brett Farve 6-3
1997 - John Elway 6-2
1998 - John Elway 6-2
1999 - Kurt Warner 6-5
2000 - Trent Dilfer 6-4
2001 - Brad Johnson 6-5
2002 - Tom Brady 6-4
2003 - Tom Brady 6-4
2004 - Ben Rothlisberger 6-7
2005 - Peyton Manning 6-7
2006 - Eli Manning 6-5
2007 - Ben Rothlisberger 6-7
2008 - Drew Brees 6-0
2009 - Aaron Rogers - 6-4
Last quarterback we had with Leadership was Aikman. Cowboys need their franchise Quarterback to be a leader, some who is a winner, and can lead on the field and vocally like Cam Newton.
As far as Conerback, offensive lineman, defensive lineman.
I believe if the Cowboys do draft a conerback in the first it should be Patrick Peterson hands down and that's it, if he's not available then looking forward to draft one in the second or third or maybe even fourth round. I believe McCann being overlooked anyway. He should be able to compete for Scandrick job as slot. This can also be addressed in free agency.
Offensive Lineman can be addressed to free agency or in house. What happen to developing Robert Brewster at right tackle?
Defensive lineman would be exception if Nick Fairly is available at our pick because he's a disruptive force. But this another position that could be addressed in free agency or in house with Josh Brent.
As far as safety I believe second round or free agency for both Free and Strong Saftey positions and make them compete with inhouse safties Church and McCray.
Back-up quarterback is such a need for this team but its sad that some fans and the front office of the Cowboys are not consciencely aware of that and the opportunity to possibly get a "Stud" at Quarterback in Cam Newton with all the tools to be a winning Quarterback in the NFL.
