I usually dont get worked up about who the cowboys draft but if they pick cam newton i will lose my mind. This better be a smokescreen.

you mean the posts/threads?

sorry, but if a QB of his calliber fallas to #9 you either take him or trade down for a King's ransom with some other team that really wants him.

If another team really wanted him they likely won't wait until 9 to move up.

NDIANAPOLIS -- One of the 60 interviews the Dallas Cowboys will conduct with draft prospects at the NFL scouting combine over the next few days will be with Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, according to vice president/director of player personnel Stephen Jones.Newton led Auburn to a BCS championship in his one year as a starter, throwing for 2,854 yards and rushing for 1,473 and combining for 50 touchdowns.
"I think obviously that position of quarterback you're immediately going to start looking for leadership," Jones said. "You're going to start looking for intangibles, and his physical abilities are pretty good. As far as in an interview, you're looking for a guy who is going to be the face of your organization that you feel like will be a leader for your team and is a winner."

The Cowboys hold the ninth pick in the first round of April's draft and have not drafted a quarterback in the first round since selecting Troy Aikman with the No. 1 overall pick in 1989. Interviewing Newton should be viewed as the Cowboys learning as much as they can about a player who burst onto the scene in one year, not a surefire sign they would draft him.
"This is what we do every year," Jones said. "You got to do all your work because you never know what's going to happen in a draft. It's part of doing your diligence as a personnel department. You can never assume anything and you can't leave any stone unturned. Give [director of college and pro scouting] Tom [Ciskowski] and our guys a lot of credit; they work hard at it and we get prepared."
Because of the offense Newton played in at Auburn and his limited -- albeit successful -- track record, there are questions he will need to address over the next month for teams.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones believes Tony Romo is the type of quarterback that can lead his team to a Super Bowl. Romo is under contract through 2013. Backup Jon Kitna played well in Romo's absence last season and is signed through 2011. Stephen McGee won his only start and showed potential in the final two games. He is signed through 2012.

I've been critical of Romo but I see no chance the Cowboys drafting Cam Newton if he's there at #9 nor would I want them to.

I'm far from sold on Newton he could end up being a very good pro or a complete flop. It's a crapshoot drafting any QB especially with a top 10 pick and Newton appears to be a real gamble.

The Cowboys drafting Newton would be sending a strong message they're pretty much done with Romo because no way does a 6-10 team that has several holes to fill draft a QB with a top 10 pick and not plan on playing them soon.

Romo should have at least 2-3 good years left and the Cowboys certainly aren't going to have Newton sit for 2-3 seasons.

I don't think we'll have to worry because some team maybe the Panthers at #1 will fall in love with Newton and take a chance. If he throws well at the combine and at his pro day he's likely to go very high.

If he did fall to the Cowboys they'll probably trade down.

Just so folks can see it clearly.
