Anyone ready to eat crow on this kid? I have seen multiple posters "laugh" at his ability to be a good pro QB? Where are they now? We all know the more subtle reason, well not so subtle really.

I don't know why I am bothering replying to this junk. It had nothing to do with so called "subtle" reasons. If it did, then know one would have been questioning Tim Tebow. Both guys didn't look like they could take the next step. It was especially tough to scout Newton because he only played one year at the major college level. Leave your dumb agendas at home.

i agree but cam is light years ahead of the tebow
cam will be a very good NFL QB, the tebow will not
cam makes real NFL throws in every game and is improving and is a rookie
the tebow, not so much

i was not a fan of cam coming in but watching him has changed my mind

I think Cam is doing well and looks different than he did at Auburn last year. Mechanically and technique wise he looks as if he has improved. Tebow looks exactly like he did at Florida. I still don't see anything in Tebow that makes me think he will be a good QB in the NFL. Newton has exceeded many expectations so far and by all accounts has what it takes to continue to improve. I hope he does well.

I have. Really had major doubt about him but he has come in and done an excellent job and should only improve as he gains experiance.

He made throws most NFL quarterbacks can't make. Hit windows most quarterbacks wouldn't even attempt. Time will tell, but he made a believer out of me. He made the Commanders looks like a bad college team.

Carolina has acutally run alot of college type plays to help Cam out. Cam has been able to extend plays by avoiding rushers and making throws on the run. He is a bigger, better version of Vick at this point. Kudos to Carolina for not trying to change his game but more or less use it to their advantage.

I was one who didn't believe that Newton would make a good professional QB.

So far, he's certainly proving me wrong.

The throws he makes are ridiculous.

He's got the strength/difficulty to bring down of Big Ben, Vick-like arm, but he's accurate and can read a defense.

Carolina gets some help on defense, and look out for the future.

No crow for me. I always liked the kid as a prospect. Admittedly, I didn't envision him coming out and passing as much as he has so early with Carolina. I figured they would try to bring him along slowly with game management, et cetera. But the kid was always been 10x better a pro prospect than say Vince Young or Tebow. He has a good delivery and throws tight spirals, stands tall in the pocket and is physical specimen.

I'll admit he's been a lot better than I'd thought he'd be. So he's doing a lot more than I thought he would to this point.

I'll admit that.

But that stupid comment you tried to throw in there at the end (this is for the OP so we don't upset anyone else who thinks I'm mentioning them) to try and imply that people didn't think he could do it because he's black is beyond stupid.

The color of his skin had, and has, absolutely nothing to do with any of it.

He's been a lot better than I thought he'd be, thus far, but I still believe in the long run that he will wind up being a below average NFL QB.

And it's quite possible that for the next 10 years he'll make me eat crow about that every single time he plays well. But that's none the less what I think is eventually going to happen.

I don't think I came out strong against him on the boards, but I thought he was a huge risk to take at the top of the draft. I still do, actually, but he looks like he's on track to pan out for Carolina. I'm glad for them, because it let them beat the Sk*ns for us this week.

Good catch, BHF. I didn't notice that sentence in the OP. If I had, I wouldn't have dignified the thread with a response.

Stupid take, stupid reason to start a thread on CZ.

I thought it'd take Newton a while to get acclimated to the NFL. He wasn't at Auburn long and played in the spread. I thought he'd be a project who'd take a few years before panning out.

His instant success surprises me. ... I managed to pick him up in one of my fantasy football leagues (after Week 1 or 2). Glad I did.

Saw him in the national championship game and wasn't impressed. Figured he'd be a running QB at best. Exhibits a lot of poise for his age, and can make throws on a dime. Nor did he have the benefit of mini-camps to hone his craft.

Hey Braveheat,

I get where you are coming from and didn't mean to make a racial thread or anything. I just find it odd that Newton was treated as a joke while other first round QBs are given a pass? He's not ready because he's a cocky, me first guy, with a dad who got paid for his college playing days? Are you sure you don't want to say that it played a part in people's opinions? He definitely had more controversy surrounding him then most first round Qbs, so I am not judging anyone who doubted him. I just think he dealt with a little more demeaning mockery than most QBs and I thought there was an obvious reason, racially/socially/personality wise "bigger and better version of Vick"? He plays nothing like Vick except for one clear reason that he decides is not important? He doesn't stare down one receive and then run like Vick, he looks to second and third options as shown by his passing stats.
